It’s hard to find fault with this colourful, unpretentious restaurant a short hop from Covent Garden market. Tourists drift in and out, but there’s a great deal of hand-shaking and joking between affable staff members and a clutch of obvious regulars. Not even the dated interior can detract from the charm, the tables crammed together and the apricot walls replete with bizarre framed caricatures. The food is decent: a starter of feta salad came with generous slices of crumbly cheese and a delicious (albeit unadvertised) pesto dressing, while a perfectly grilled salmon fillet on a bed of creamed spinach was let down only by a congealing saffron sauce. Still, with two courses for £6.90 (three for £7.90), it hardly seems worth mentioning.
