The perfect place for a real taste of the sea. Great staff as well, who'll be able to pick out the right cocktail for you after/before/during dinner.

After starting as a pop-up in Hackney in 2011, Bonnie Gull landed in Fitzrovia in 2012. The premises do a good job of evoking a seaside shack, with simple tables and chairs, a lot of blue and white (notably the jaunty awning), and ropework on the wall. Staff are engaged and welcoming, and the menu is something special.
It changes daily, but super-fresh crab, simply served on a wooden platter, with the brown meat mixed with mayo in the shell and the white meat ready to be cracked out, is often featured and always worth ordering. Another menu staple is fish and chips, featuring haddock, chips cooked in beef dripping, mushy peas and the house ketchup. More complex dishes are beautifully presented, and equally good. Cornish hake with courgette purée, beer-battered courgette flower and courgette ribbons was an assured plateful, full of contrasting tastes, textures and colours – we savoured every mouthful.
Puddings are a treat too: lemon curd tart with raspberry sorbet was zingy and indulgent, with delicate pastry. There are a couple of meat and vegetarian dishes, but you’d be mad to miss out on the carefully sourced British fish and seafood. Prices are very fair for central London.
There’s a short wine list, biased towards white, but with a few reds, included a couple of chilled options. In short – we like the cut of their jib.

I never comment on these things - but I have been twice to Bonnie Gull recently and both times it has exceeded my expectations - well done! Great, fresh seafood, good value wine, staff that care - fantastic place!
I have been here more than once recently. The fish is very fresh all the times, and you can see they love what they do. From the service to the food I would say Bonnie Gull is an excellent "catch". The atmosphere is relaxed and everytime I have been I tried something different... never been disappointed. Highly recommended!
Have read some great reviews about Bonnie Gull and decided to give it a try - what a treat. Atmosphere is buzzy yet cosy and we had a friendly welcome on arrival. Oysters, scallops with pork belly were all amazing, I couldn't fault the service or the food, can't wait to call in again in the new year!
Perfect seafood, perfect setting. This is truly the greatest seafood restaurant in the city. My husband and I tend to have massively differing tastes when it comes to dining out, but we both fell in love with this gem, after discovering it for lunch during a busy days shopping on Oxford Street. We started with a selection from the 'Raw Bar' - Loch Ryan Oysters to die for, Razor Clams, Cockles and Surf Clams - cooked in white wine and parsley. This was more of a pre starter-starter. To start we shared a Cornish Squid with Pork Belly - a perfect combination with endive and apple, however it was the mains that took the hot spot... Hake with salsify, chestnuts and a veal jus and the hubby had the now famous beer battered haddock with beef dripping chips. Both cooked perfectly. The atmosphere is fun, the staff couldn't be more friendly. It's busy, small and so warming. I can't recommend this place enough - although i shouldn't really, as it's so small I may loose my ability to get a seat!!
Went for lunch. After an hour and a half, still didn't have any lunch. AND upon asking for the cheque because time for lunch had run out, we were told by the management that it somehow our fault! Hmmm, they may want to rethink their strategy. ...Lunchtime Fail......
Very disappointed. We waited well over an hour for our main course, and when we finally said we had to go back to work and couldn't wait any longer, the manager argued with us about what time we placed our order. The food we did have was lovely, but the service was hugely disappointing. It's a shame really because if he had made a small gesture to us, like knocking our drinks off the bill, I would have considered going back. But I won't.
