I like a good burger...Meat Easy, Wenlock and Essex, Hawksmoor and now Burger Breakout... The burgers here easily live up to any of the top London establishments in whcih you can find a proper burger. And let's just establish that a proper burger is made of proper beef, and therefore you can cook it rare, or you can ask for it to be cooked as you prefer. Anyway...great burgers with unusual toppings; good, robust bun and something a little different. A couple of my party had the Whisky Beast, which had some seriously powerful mustard flavour to it; but if you're looking for a different take on a seriously decent burger, you can't go wrong. Service was good, and I recomend trying the alcoholic milkshakes if you haven't stuffed yourself...actually, just have one, live fast, die of delicious milkshake overdose. And a final note, the atmoshere in the pub is cracking, and makes this a proper night out.

How many more burger pop-ups does London need? Maybe there’ll come a point when the sight of another glazed brioche bun, 28-day-aged patty or canape-sized chip bucket in a slightly jaded bar will be too much. For now though, the burgers can keep on flippin’, because the customers are still flockin’: Burger Breakout, barely open one week, is already heaving.
Housed in an old pub on shabby New Oxford Street, The Old Crown has sags and bumps in the floorboards, scratched paintwork, and the patina of use that money can’t buy. On top of that is the styled style – cracked, chunky wooden table tops, chandeliers and Spanish-lesson soundtrack playing in the toilets.
It felt as if popularity might have been getting the better of Burger Breakout on our visit. The OC Burger seemed a bit underloaded. Of the promised fillings, the thousand island dressing made the most confident and accomplished appearance, but the smoked onion jam had a minor role. Where the hot pickle had got to was unclear. The kitchen’s first attempt at a medium rare burger was only just warm, and very red; we sent it back. The second attempt at medium rare completely lacked any pink flush.
Special and show-stealing mention though has to go to the smoked horseradish salt: almost unnoticeable in the murky light, but it made the skin-on chips almost addictive.
On another visit, things were more impressive – the OC Burger was served medium rare, as requested. But at £12 for a burger and chips, it should be right every time. Maybe the first week wobbles will disappear once the twitter storm around the Old Crown has abated.

I don't normally bother submitting reviews but feel compelled to after eating here last night. I like many others at the moment am a huge burger fan. I love the dirtier burgers from MeatLiquor and Lucky Chip as well as the more gourmet offerings from Hawksmoor, Burger and Lobster etc... The Burger Breakout menu feels as though it simply copying every other popular place that has opened this year. Deep fried pickles - tick, Pulled pork - tick, Chicken wings - tick etc etc.... It lacks the true originality of say MeatLiquor or Slider bar. Anyway on to the burgers. I had an OC. It was definitely the worst burger I've had this year. It was bland, not seasoned, and none of the promised toppings or garnishes were evident. The burger came to the table cold. The cooking was uneven, at one edge it was pretty raw (I like a medium rare) but cold jelly like meat with no flavour isn't great at all. The bun wasn't steamed which I think added to the overall underwhelming experience. Avoid and spend your money elsewhere at a place that makes its burgers with love.
3 words - WORSE SERVICE EVER. i initially booked a table of 9 but eventually only 5 of my friends can make the dinner which I booked for. As me and my girlfriend showed up, the scottish manager threw us a fit for not ringing prior to arrival that we have shrunk the table size. He constantly guilt-tripped us about how he sent people away because of our booking etc, and gave me evils. After we sat down, he warned us that the food will take longer than usual before a big party with more people (more important??) are to be served too. While we were waiting to be fed, my girlfriends ordered some crisps from the bar to cure their hunger. However, the same manager came up to us and told us that we should not be 'so rude to the bartender when ordering crisps', and it was our fault for shrinking the table size etc which eventually led to the delayed service. I explained that we weren't being rude at all, all we asked for was the flavours of the crisps. He walked off still blaming us for coming with less people. Although the food arrived (burgers were below average but chips were ok) 30 mins later, I would pay the same price and go somewhere else. Why bother dealing with a rude manager who made me and my friends feel bad from the moment I entered the pub?
