  • I have been to Caravan before and the food (if you get blessed to get a chance to even order) is tasty and fresh. As a New Zealander, one of the few things I miss from home is a good brunch cafe. Caravan does good coffee and has a good feel to it. Usually. Today my experience was upsetting. Today I took a fellow kiwi friend there for a special 'last breakfast in London' meal. Knowing Caravan is popular I knew we may have to wait. That's okay. Sometimes you have to wait. But and hour and a half? Seriously? Waiting in the cold we saw a few people just give up and leave. One girl was very polite and expressed she had waited for an hour and a half but now had to go. She was upset as she had watched so many come after her and get seated before her. We waited like chumps outside in the freezing, ignored completely by staff for an hour and then asked the waitress when we could get a table (for three) she said we were next on the list. Half an hour later and several people leaving and more groups being seated, we realised that whatever seating system they had, our table of three was well at the end of any priority. I will now never go back. They lost at least £70 (be aware they are not a cheap place to eat). Should you experience similar, please don't wait an hour and a half, jump on a 19 bus towards Finsbury park (bus stop across the road). Get off on Blackstock road at the Riversdale road stop and go to Globe where the customer service is excellent and the breakfast (around £5) is just delicious. I recommend Flat White and Milk Bar in Soho for yum coffee. It is such a shame as Caravan could have made the whole experience easier by just talking to us and being honest about the wait. Or even just talking to us AT ALL. On leaving I explained to the waiter that we had seen at least three or four groups get seated who had arrived well after us.The waiter did not apologise. Pretty stink really. I wanted to show off a good food place and left feeling like an invisible person.

  • I have never written a review on a restaurant in my life but as I had such a bad experience on Saturday night I am so annoyed I feel I have to write this. We had friends visiting us from home so we wanted to show them where is good in London - we decided on Caravan because my boyfriend and I had been a while back and had a great time. We turned up and all was fine not a problem we were given the menus all going well then the waiter came over. We asked whether a sharing plate was big enough for all of us and he said yes bearing in mind we were with 3 big men and 2 small girls the sharing platter turned up and was tiny which was embarrassing.... then we ordered and the waiter's attitude was over flowing with arrogance I was embarrassed for him. The food came out all a bit randomly and they had a food order wrong - we had to ask them 4 times to clear our table because of dirty plates. I had to physically get up 3 times to ask to order more drinks -then the bill came and it was so expensive considering the horrendous service. The waiter was so rude when I was trying to explain the different amounts to go on each card it took all my strength not to say something then and cause a scene. We then ordered more drinks at the bar and kindly one of our guests brought them and even his comment was how rude the staff were and considering we just brought 5 shots at £8 each they could have been nicer. I will not go back here or recommend this to anyone I know I am furious that I spent the money I did on Saturday night to have staff be so un-attentive and un-grateful for having my business. This place has seriously gone down in my estimations from 6 months ago.

  • "good for the hip factor" says it all. Staff are outright rude on the phone when you try to book for brunch and it gets worse if you show up to queue. They clearly have their reputation cemented by raving reviews and make NO effort to offer decent service. We left numerous times for this reason.

  • The first time I went to Caravan was when it opened a few years back. Then the food, atmosphere and staff were great. I recently went back for dinner and unfortunately this time wasn't so good. I agree with quite a bit of the negative comments. The stuff were nice enough but pretty nonplussed and the food.....we just had a selection of starters and they were cold (I assumed they were reheated) and not very tasty at all. Very disappointed. The Roasted Beetroot was literally out of a supermarket packet (I'm not exaggerating), Goat's Curd and Butternut Squash was a tasteless mess, the Aubergine with Miso marinade was cold and the marinade was extremely thick/strong/sickly, and the Corgette loaf was ok (think average coffee bar carrot cake). Needless to say it was pretty much empty and Moro just down the road still had people queuing. Not Good

  • Looking for a good breakfast after a night on sleeper from Scotland we followed the reviews to Caravan. Hmmm, admittedly the atmosphere was good, lovely attentive service, ( apart from one guy who swore profusely, calling fellow worker a****ing retard!), but the breakie was v v disappointing. Honey roasted meusli with stewed pears was more like dusty grape nuts with diced canned pears, sourdough toast was cold and soggy. Coffee was good, but not so sure I would give it another try.
