I go to the Shoreditch branch of Dishoom as often as I can. It's the House Black Daal that keeps taking me back. The service is friendly and pretty efficient. The interior is great, The online booking works well. The only problem is that my waistline can't afford it, although my wallet can. I love this place.

Jugaar (pronounced ‘joo-gaar’) is the word used in Hindi to describe a certain type of problem solving. ‘Improvisation’ is one translation; ‘makeshift’or even ‘dodgy’ might be another. The point of jugaar is to get results, not to follow the rules.
The second Shoreditch branch of Dishoom looks at first to have a jugaar approach to the decor – an industrial space has been turned into an aspirational Indian restaurant. But the interior design is inspired by the ‘Irani cafés’ of late twentieth-century Bombay. A sign reading ‘permit room’ greets you at the entrance – Indian English for ‘alcohol-licensed premises’. The giant clock suspended from the ceiling is a small copy of the one at Victoria Terminus in Bombay (now called Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai). The tiled floors and bentwood chairs are also faithful to true Bombay style.
There’s nothing jugaar about the menu or cooking though. Sit in the basement dining room and you can watch the Indian chefs at work. Our seekh kebabs arrived well spiced, the minced lamb juicy, served piping hot from the grill. Many more distinctively Bombay dishes are on the menu, including bhel (a spicy puffed-rice snack) and pau bhaji (spicy vegetables in a bread roll). More modern creations are there too, including the lamb raan bun, which owes more to the current barbecue and burger craze in London than it does to Mumbai.
Dishoom is great for atmosphere and for its all-day opening hours. The small-plates menu may not be faithful to Irani cafés in their post-independence heyday. But what’s wrong with a little jugaar?

Great food- My clients and I all ordered the okra chips and demolished them, pleasingly spicey. Mains definitely need a side to fill you up sufficiently but everything tasted fantastic. Didn't go for desserts but the chai was very good. Only downside was the seemingly inflexible reservation policy (I called up but was told to wait for a response to my earlier email..perhaps consider open-table?) but glad we went in the end. NIce space, great lunch.
We had our first experience of Dishoom last week and had a wonderful meal from beginning to end. Everything we ordered was delicious. One of our highlights was the lamb special which was melt in the mouth. We were stuffed from all the yummy mains but managed to slip down some cinnamon ice cream at the end which was seriously tasty! We will definitely be going back.
Excellent food in a very fun atmosphere. The lamb is amazing and they cater very well for vegetarians. Will definitely be back soon.
We were a party of five who had never been before. On arrival we were given a pager and had delicious cocktails in the bar while waiting for a table, which was ready more quickly than we had been told. The friendly waitresses talked us through the menu and answered all our questions. After ordering a huge meal with about 15 different dishes, the food came unbelievably fast and was utterly delicious. Incredible service and gorgeous, authentic food. Plus really great staff, a beautiful room and a lovely atmosphere. Would give six stars if I could!
Absolutely love this place - for breakfast (bacon naan), lunch (Keema Frankie), or dinner (lamb raan). The protected outdoor space is great no matter the weather, and the cocktails make waiting for a table enjoyable.
Great location, looks great inside and the brunch is unique and delicious.. The chai, egg naan roll and the Bombay omelette are must-haves. Overall highly recommended!
Great service on a busy Christmas lunch day, six of us were in & out in 70 minutes, unrished, plenty of time, service was excellent without being over-attentive. The food is great - delicious, good value, outstanding lamb chops and daal but no flaws to be seen.
Me and my partner visited the shoreditch dishroom branch and would just like to highlight the excellent customer service received. Came in at 9pm, as we saw it was quite busy we were unsure if we would get a seat. There was many xmas party bookings and the 2 ladies on the door were lovely. They informed us of the 45 min wait or there was a table near a very loud xmas party. we decided to take the 2 seater near the party as we were starving and did not want to drive elsewhere. Although we did not mind sitting there as it was the only available space, more than 5 members of staff came apologized for the loud crowd and tried getting us a different table. It was the amazing efforts that the staff went to today, made our experience that much more enjoyable evening, not forgetting the delicious food! good value for food and the dishroom shoreditch staff who were super attentive should receive the praise for making us feel ever so welcome.
We visited Dishoom in Shoreditch on a Wednesday morning for breakfast. The restaurant was not to busy which was a nice change from the evening and weekend rush. We had booked a table for 10.30am but were late and arrived at 11am but the staff were very accomodating and didn;t seem to mind at all. We first decided to sit in the outside (covered and heated) area but then decided we rather sit in the main restaurant and again the staff were very kind in accomodating our request. We thought the ambiance was great and the attention to detail in the decor of the place really makes it special. We opted for some Bombay-style breakfast and the food was excellent particularly the akuri (spicy scrambled eggs)! Drinks were nice too, although we thought the house chai had a little too much cinnamon and was not as authentic as we would have liked (but we still enjoyed it!). We had excellent service throughout, the staff were very knowledgeable and answered any questions we had about the menu. I would definitely recommend dishoom to my friends, in fact I already have as we have all been raving about it since our visit!
Great authentic Indian food, large portions, Xmas feast was perfect. Friendly staff, great service, awesome for a large group
Am a huge fan of Dishoom - we even had our office Xmas party there recently and the banquet was very generous, good for veg/non-veg and pretty inexpensive given the service and style. The turkey was AWESOME! I would definitely recommend anyone wanting to dine somewhere different, trendy, and eat yummy food to go to Dishoom Shoreditch. (Soho version also nice but not as big and different feel). Ill certainly be going back, again and again.
I just wanted to drop a quick note, telling about how great the product is in Dishoom Shoreditch and although all of the staff did treat us very well on each occasion when dining out there, I would like to highlight one particular person. I wouldn't say we are super regulars, but we have been to Dishoom Shoreditch roughly about 10 times since you have opened. With friends, as a couple, with parents, alone... Half of this time as well as the last time (last Sunday) we were served by Hanna-Liina. I just wanted say how great she is. Every time she did look after us, she was quick, efficient, she always was around but never disturbing. She has a good knowledge of the menu, she is not afraid to recommend. I believe her style also fits perfectly in your restaurant. She always smiles and has a great attitude. Please pass on our big ' thank you' to her especially, but also to all other members. The restaurant has a great vibe, and it's proximity to Brick Lane gives a feeling of truly being in a little India. The food is always faultless! I am not writing feedbacks or reviews generally, but the restaurant and Hanna made me putting the effort to drop a few lines. Please follow the path you are on, it means success!
Such a good find for brunch. Really tasty food, great service and reasonable prices. Sausage naan is my fav!
Have been to both Covent Garden and Shoreditch restaurants a few times and last week organised my 40th birthday with 45 guests at Dishoom Shoreditch. We had the entire downstairs for us and everyone was amazed how good the food was including some Indian friends! Staff very friendly and a great place to do a group dinner.
Went to Dishoom in Shoreditch for my boyfriend's birthday. We were a table of 14 and ordered one of the feasts (any tables over 12 have to have a 'feast') and it was absolutely delicious. Every dish was very tasty, the waiters/waitresses were very helpful and there was a good selection of drinks/cocktails. It is very busy, so if you are a large table you need to book way in advance...which leads me to my only gripe. We had a table booked for 9.30pm and were not allowed to sit at our table until 10pm. Once we were seated, the food came out fairly quickly (as it should because it's pre-ordered), but at that time of night, when you're starving, that extra half an hour feels like ages! Other than that minor complaint, it was brilliant.
Fantastic meal! We had our work Christmas Dinner at the Shoreditch branch last week and the entire group had a great meal and were very satisfied with the service, food and atmosphere. Can't fault the food and we would most certainly recommend the restaurant and especially the Raan-style turkey!
I have been here over 30-times ... i can see without confidence that the food, the service has been consistent in both the Covent Garden and Shoredtich venues. You truly need to start your evening downstairs at the bar and savour the different cocktails. My favourite at the moment is Edwina Affair. But everything on the menu is truly meant for a feast.
Went here for a banquet and sampled their generous feasting menu. The food was absolutely delicious! The staff were very friendly and attentive and the restaurant has a lovely ambiance right down to the Hindi swing music and moody lighting. I would definitely recommend it in a heartbeat and will surely be back soon!
We went as a group of work colleagues for someone's leaving do - at her specific request! It's the second time we've been to the Shoreditch branch and loved it! We ordered a big mix of dishes and shared them all - favourites were the bhel puri, okra (much debate about the recipe) and the daal, and moreish roti and everyone was in raptures about the calamari which we hadn't had before - the bolly bellinis also went down very well. We were well looked after by our waitress who was very helpful when we hadn't realised our colleague was vegan, not vegetarian - and suggested specific dishes she could eat which were brought out promptly. Lovely atmosphere and whenever we go, we wonder why we don't go there more often.
I really enjoyed my first visit to Dishoom after hearing so much about it. And it didn't disappoint. The food was great with new flavours to try. The atmosphere and decor relaxing, smart and interesting with curios grouped together here and there. The highlight for me was the service - restaurants in London take note! Friendly and attentive. We had great recommendations from our lovely waiter Donatas and got to try the Kala Khotta Gola Ice - strangely addictive. My friend's since gone back for more okra fries (again addictive) and was greeted with a smile by Donatas who remembered her. Will most certainly become a regular.
I love Dishoom. The building (especially the new verandah), atmosphere and food are all great. I've brought lots of friends now and everyone loves it.
I loved it! I met a friend for breakfast and it was my first time at Dishoom. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. The flavours worked exceptionally well, we both went for the Bacon Naan. I would definitely recommend you to friends.
I've been to Dishoom a few times now, and have to say it is consistently impressive. Over my visits I have tried a variety of different dishes, but favourites have to be the Lamb Raan, and the house black daal. I'm not a huge fan of daal, but this is so deep and flavoursome. I have to get at least one portion on every visit! Simple dishes like chilli cheese on toast are well executed, the grilled meats succulent and delicious, and the curries very tasty. Pricewise it is good value as well. You should go!!
The waiter looked after our group of 8 superbly and chose a great selection to suit our various allergies, vegetarianisms and fish preferences. There's wonderful food, cheerful service and it's becoming a regular and favorite place for us to eat in Shoreditch.
I've been here a couple of times for lunch and enjoyed both visits. Menu is interesting and food was very tasty, service was prompt and friendly even when we had a group of 7 and the place has a generally good buzz about it - though it can get a bit loud when full because of the acoustics of the place I think. Pricing is ok, nothing is that expensive but it can add up. Recommended.
Alas, I've never been to a traditional Parsee cafe in Mumbai. On the other hand, I have been to Cafe Dishoom in Shoreditch three times in recent months. It's a great experience. Really friendly staff and great service from the moment you walk in, and excellent food. I particularly recommend the lamb raan bun, which is served on a board with coleslaw and potato sticks. Absolute knockout.
If you are fed up with brick lane curries or fancy something with a different feel that just your average curry house, I suggest you head to Dishoom, this uber trendy curry house in the heart of Shoreditch, is a great place, I took 27 of my work colleagues and we were very well looked after indeed. The food is delicious, the service was great and I will definitely be going back again soon.
I am a very happy patron of Dishoom - particularly the Shoreditch branch; cute colonial railway chic with a lovely outside area. This is always a great place to bring visiting friends or family into London and the food has just the right balance of authentic flavours while still managing to mix it up and get innovative. I always order the 'far far' cripsy snacks which are often bought out at weddings and the 24 hour simmered dahl - yummy! They also serve Indian style brunch - I tried a sausage naan bap, masala chai and Indian morning biscuits - the best brunch in a long while!!
We had a wicked time at Dishoom, from the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome and very well looked after. Your staff are very friendly and always found time to make sure everything was going well, the food and drinks are amazing and we are very much looking forward to another night out with you there. The vibe is wicked, you must visit
Enjoyed a fab lunch here - the weather was lovely so we sat out in the courtyard. The food was delicious, we started with some small sharer plates and then each had the Lamb Raan Bun which was yummy. The introduction to the menu could have been shorter for me but otherwise everything else was superb and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Will definitely return.
We really enjoyed our first experience dining at Dishoom. The food was fantastic. Even though one of my friends doesn't like coriander and almost everything had coriander she couldn't taste it and absolutely loved the food. We found the food to be beautifully prepared, decent portions and good value for money. The service was great. We were particularly pleased with having been given a table outside even though we had not specifically put in a request. we also found the waiter to be helpful with explaining the menu and recommendations. We will definitely be back and will also recommend to our friends.
Almost hesitate putting a review here cos this is so amazing In my opinion one of the best Indian food in London but with superb decor ( nota n scrap of flock in sight) very Mumbai food ( try the malai Tikka and Biryani and oh the Black Daal-wth try everything its all good!) and fab service Have yet to have a bad experience and eat there every few weeks The only downside is getting a table so go early or book and go in a large group and share, share , share! Loving the Gujarati choc mouse and Rose (gulkhand) mouse alongside...Yummm! Now Im hungry!
Every time I've been to dishoom the food has always been excellent, the staff are friendly and helpful, and everyone I've taken there has loved it as well.
I recently went to Dishoom Shoreditch with some friends to celebrate my birthday. Right from making my reservation the staff were friendly, prompt and helpul. The food and drink were excellent. I had a great time.

dishoom is a standard favourite. we have celebrated birthday's there (mine just recently) and have always been happy with the service, food and drinks. i'm particularly partial to their paneer tikka which i personally think is the best in london. since we are having a real summer in london i'd suggest you get yourself a seat on the verandah and have an affair with edwina in cocktail form!
We held a large group dinner here and the service was fantastic. The food was amazing - the flavours, spices incredible - a delectable delight. The venue is stylish, casual and relaxed. Love it and can highly recommend Dishoom Shoreditch. Cannot wait to go back.
The food was brilliant, a great sharing experience where you get to try a little bit of everything, along with awesome cocktails. The staff were very friendly, efficient and gave great recommendations. The venue offers a chilled but fun environment. We will definitely be visiting again soon.
We chose Dishoom as one of my group is vegetarian, and in my experience, Indian vegetarian food really stands out as the best option (even as an enthusiastic carnivore). Dishes were fantastic throughout (loved the dahl), and the drinks were great too (Sazerac old fashioned was made perfectly) - service was polite and speedy.
One of my favourite restaurants in London. Great atmosphere, friendly service, and above all, DELICIOUS food.... Highly recommend it for an informal, yummy, and relatively cheap night out.
I can't remember how many times in total we've been to Dishoom now but whether it's for breakfast or dinner the food & service has always been excellent. Our last visit, for dinner, included a mix of new & old visitors and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Booking was made easy by Jen, and she even contacted us after our visit to make sure everything had gone well We started outside with a cocktail from the bar, all very refreshing, if slightly expensive. When we moved inside for food we chose a good 80% of the 'small plates' to share, and a main each (which we also shared). The food was excellent as always, from the soft & tender calamari and the spicy gunpowder potatoes to the creamy black daal, lamb raan buns & biryanis. Dishoom made some new friends from our party that night and we will all be back again soon
We went to Dishoom Shoreditch for a work team party after dining there previously for just two. The whole process of booking for a large group was easy. The staff are accommodating and the menu was great (given we had to have a set one due to size of party). It would be good if the platters were mixed up to allow each end of the table to sample. Skate cheeks and Paneer particular favourites. The drinks are different and well thought out. We will definitely be back!!
