  • Fantastic Pub, but much more than just a pub. The food and service is bang on. We sat in the lovely beer garden on a summers eve and had an amazing selection of tapas. Well played.

  • Awful experience. Avoid the manager whatever you do. Really, really bad attitude, no customer servcice skills whatsoever. I have never been treated so badly by what is supposed to be a manager. We arrived with my fanily of 5 and our dog. Having already been there on Boxing Day 2012 for lunch with a friend (he has a british bulldog and we have a Weimaraner) We rung up beforehand to make sure they accepted dogs and they confirmed they did. We had a nice meal although the service was very slow but we were in no hurry so did not complain. However today (Sunday 24th Feb 2013) we booked a table and promptly arrived only to be told no dogs are allowed. I found this surprising as only about 2 months ago as mentioned earlier I arrived with my friends and 2 dogs and no problem so bearing this in mind today I asked the nice waitress if I could speak to the Manager. He came along with a sour face and when I asked him if the no dog policy was correct he said menancingly said Yes since I have been working here it is a no dog policy, when I asked how long he had been working here he said 3 years so I asked how come on boxing day a couple of months ago he said that's impossible, IT;s NO !! turned his back and walker off. I personally have no problem with the fact they no longer seem to accept dogs, however that is no excuse for this manager to treat my wife and I like a pair of idiots. There are ways to explain things and he certainly has not idea how to treat a customer. I will never go there again, Instead we went to the Bollo House pub round the corner on Bollo Lane, not only did they welcome the dog, the manager only had smiles for us and the food was awesome. If you want to be treated as a human being should be treated I strongly advice you, not to go to the Duke of Sussex (not whilst they have the same manager anyway)

  • Well, this place is a very disappointing disaster. After recommendations from our new neighbours, we booked a table for 12 for a family celebration. Sunday roast of topside beef was inedible, so tough the meet could not be masticated. the roast potatoes soggy on the outside and crunchy in the middle. The carrots near raw. everything cold and inedible. The rib of beef for “5 or 6” folk was a single rib bone, large, but a single rib. 50% plus fat. We love a rib of beef and are fine with it being marbled and some fat, but this was pure blubber. And a single rib bone of beef, even from the forerib, for £90, really? With the rib of beef, again raw carrots, with an over boiled gloopy surface. Roadt potatoes, anemic and soggy on the outside, crunchy and raw on the inside. Maybe the tapas is better. But the Paella had dry and overcooked rice. The shelfish in it was ok. The starter of cured meats and deep fried baby octopus was good. I guess when the illusion is shattered everyone get’s critical, but its fair to say that the chicken pie for two looked nice, but was light on the chicken for £20... The staff were polite and attentive. When I complained to the manager, hsi fisrt line of tact was that the beef was organic. I’m sorry buddy, it was disgraceful to serve up platters of blubber and over cooked topside. After a disgraceful negotiation they took something off the bill. I really did not want a discount with my friends and family, just a pleasant meal, they totally failed. Place seems to have nice vibe, so enjoy a drink, but if you’re hungry, stick with a packet of nuts.

  • What a really great old victorian pub - the menu is very weird - and the food in my view is also very average, which is a shame - this great pub deserves a much better food menu. The real ale choice is fantastic, with a real focus on smaller independent brewers which should be applauded, it's not always kept as well as it could be however, and they can be a bit grumpy if you return a bad one. They do also seem to allow small children in all day and all night, and thats not for everyone in a pub environment, also recent drinks price rises (by new owners Green King), may put this pub out of the reach of some ordinary drinkers - welcome to Chiswick..

  • I am a local who wanted to take some relatives to a nice local pub that was reputed to provide good food. Summertime - so evening dinner in the pub garden. It took 20 minutes to persuade a waiter take our order and a further 30 minutes to be served. I was then berated by anti-smoking Nazis complaining about smoke from our table drifting on to them - when we were outside in the garden! The interior, entirely smoke-free restaurant was completely empty but nevertheless they insisted we cease and desist, which only added to our annoyance while we waited and waited. This gastropub has great pretensions of being a Spanish tapas bar. When we were served, eventually, the salt cod fritters were no more than deep-fried, mildly fishy-tasting balls of mashed potato - a far cry from the rich, roux-filled bacalao croquetas they were supposed to represent. The gazpacho (the last dish to arrive, after the other starters and main courses had been served) was inedible. The chef had been far too generous with the vinegar - I thought they had mistakenly given us the salad vinaigrette. Nearly took all the enamel off my teeth. To be fair, they did deduct it from the bill. The double-espresso I ordered was clearly a single in a tiny glass and they forgot to bring several items we ordered, for which the waiter had to be reminded, whenever one drifted near enough, about every half an hour. In summary: 1. The food is definitely sub-standard and priced as if it were of a much higher standard. 2. This pub pretentiously sets out to be more gastro than pub while the dishes are more Vauxhall than Valencia, to appeal to tourists who won't come back (like me). Locals beware. 3. Service was woefully inadequate and staffing is one-third of what it should be. If we had not flagged down a rare passing waiter every time we needed service, I fear we would still be there now. There are much better pubs in Chiswick than this and also much nicer pubs with decent food. Don't be fooled by this one.

  • A really friendly pub with very good food. Very important to me is that my beautiful dog is welcome and the staff are firendly towards our 4 legged friends offering water and treats. We eat in the bar as that is where our dog is allowed to eat. I love this bohemian pub and would highly recommend it to any visitors to Chiswick. It is a great local we are very lucky!

  • After having had many social events at this pub we were very keen to try Sunday lunch here. We entered the pub on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon and received a very warm welcome from the bar staff. We found a table outside and helped ourselves to a seat in the sun! Very quickly we were approached by a waiter and ordered our drinks. The drinks arrived quite promptly. All started well, however things rapidly deteriorated. We waited for over twenty minutes to order our food, with the menus on our table. When having to ask someone to order, it then took a further ten minuters for someone to come back. We wanted to ask a few questions regarding the menu and our waitress (whose English wasn't her first language) was unable to answer these questions. She went away to ask and came back still very unsure. Once ordered, we were given cutlery and beautifully fresh pieces of bread and butter. We waited for our meal for approximately fifteen/twenty minutes while a lot of other tables around us were asking to order and asking how long their food would be. Once receieving our food, it was very nice, home made, fresh and hot, which was thoroughly enjoyed. We weren't asked how our meal was and all the waiters and waitresses seemed to be rushing around (at one stage running) which to us seemed very unprofessional and chaotic. Once finishedm, our plates were taken away and given the dessert menu. We waited another ten minutes and then asked for our bill. The bar man who greeted us could see we had been waiting some time and pointed out to the waitress that we were ready to pay. When another waitress said she would be back with the card machine, she then diasappeard. The barman (seeing this) then rushed over with a card machine and apologised. he was very attentive and pleasant. All in all we were very diaspointed in the whole experience as far as the service was concerned. It is a big let down, as this pub is beatiful, set in a nice location, with a great garden and decor and wonderful food and presentation. We won't be going back to eat in a hurry.

  • I was recommended this restaurant and visited last night. I can honestly say that I have never, ever in all my life experienced service as terrible as last night. After 20 mins of waiting we had to ask to see the menus for Gods sake - we should have left then. Our food took well over an hour and went to the wrong table. It was tapas but we weren't given any plates so we were literally passing the dishes between us! We tried initially to order wine, but despite chasing the restaurant staff repeatedly and also queuing at the very understaffed bar we gave up and settled for tap water. We even had to find someone to get the bill to leave - not sure why we bothered. The real tragedy is that the food is very, very good, but unless you're a fan of re-living Fawlty Towers steer clear.
