  • Yummy! This is a real hidden gem... Wonderful food in the backstreets of SE1, away from hurly burly of Borough Market. My favourites: Churrasco palta with salsa and chilli (S American beef sandwich with avocado, salsa and chilli) and the cherry cheescake. And the daily specials are out of this world. Enjoy! PS - el vergel is open for brunch on Saturday, amazing menu... BUT it's closed in the evening.

  • I have been going to El Vergel for more than 5 years. Food has been consistently good and staff is friendly. Love the new bigger restaurant. Toilets are always clean which is a plus!

  • I haven't been to El Vergel for a while but their new, much bigger place on Southwark Bridge Road is brilliant - with a style that mixes industrial design and bright Latin American tapestries, salsa music and friendly staff, its probably the coolest eaterie in SE1. Particularly loved the salmon ceviche and fresh salad.

  • A third of paint of mango juice for 2.60 is robbery. The guacamole was not to a good standard and the service was slow and inexperienced. Not to mention the waitress, who wouldn't speak Spanish with me dropped my sandwich right next to me and didn't offer anything for the wait! Not very good, quite disappointing to be honest. A disappointed Chilean in London

  • I've known that restaurant for years. I really like their new place and I was expecting some changes, the waitresses are nice, sometimes they seem confused, they always do their best. The food is ok, the menu hasn't changed, I haven't noticed a real new main I would like to try. I was really surprised by the prices'increase, the portions became smaller. The few times I've been for a year, the food have been delivered quite late and the only saturday I had been, it wasn't busy at all. I'm really disappointed, I would recommend it only for take-away now.

  • The food is OK, as is the service, but portions are small, and not cheap for the size.
