    53 Park Lane, W1A 2HJ
(020 7317 6336) Hyde Park Corner tube. Open for Sunday lunch 12noon-2.30pm. Roast beef three-course set lunch £32.50

    Success on your plate?
10/10 The beef (meltingly tender Aberdeen Angus) came under a silver cloche and was carved in front of us. Our plate was carpeted in beef with just enough room for a fist-sized Yorkshire. Potatoes and veg (cauliflower, carrot, green beans, carrots and swede cooked just right) waited on separate silver salvers.

    Gravy
8/10 Smooth, almost black. Good consistency and not too salty.

    Roast potatoes
3/10 Watery – more like boiled potatoes that had been tinted brown.

    Veggie alternative
2/10 Not a lot, really; this is The Grill Room, after all.

    Drinks
7/10 Extensive wine list (from £8.50 by the glass) and soft drinks (apple juice £4!).

    Puds
7/10 Vanilla yoghurt with rhubarb; cheese; or ice cream-filled, chocolate-drenched profiteroles. Guess which we chose…

    Relaxation
6/10 A fairly formal place, with surprisingly friendly staff.

    Did it cure your hangover?
4/10 The huge murals of strapping, bekilted, bagpipers did our heads in.

Is it as good as good as your mum's?
8/10 The beef far better; potatoes nowhere near.

What to do in the area once you've mopped up your gravy
10/10 A post-prandial stroll in Hyde Park or Green Park; shopping on Oxford Street; browsing the Mayfair galleries; or nosing round the Wellington Museum in Apsley House.

    Total
    65/100
