Deli delights
And the range of ice creams on offer in London’s delis and supermarkets keeps on getting better. Bottlegreen has reimagined its range of cordials as sorbets: Elderflower, English Summer (berries) and Ginger and Lemongrass. (around £3.49 for 500ml from delis and supermarkets). Waitrose has introduced some exotic flavours to its existing range including Fig & Orange Blossom Honey, and Mango & Passion Fruit (£2.89 per 500ml).
A tried and tested favourite, Carluccio’s Arabica Coffee ice-cream (£5 for 500ml, £2.50 for 100ml from their own lable range) makes a great substitute for an end-of-meal espresso (or early-morning latte) – smooth and creamy but packing a punch.
The purist ice-cream, on the other hand, has to be La Belle Rouge Gelato di Latte di Bufala (£4.90 for 500ml) which is made with water buffalo milk and does not come in any flavours. The makers instead recommend mixing it with a fruit or condiment of your choice.
The lactose intolerant need not miss out either, Planet Organic stocks a range of dairy-free, gluten-free ice-creams such as Mother Hemp (£4.25 for 500 ml) and Tofutti (£2.09 for 750ml).
