Fifth Floor Harvey Nichols
Bentley's Oyster Bar & Grill
Chef Richard Corrigan, of Lindsay House fame, has done a grand job in breathing new life into this Piccadilly oyster bar. In centre stage on the ground floor is a swanky, marble-topped bar lined with deep red, studded leather chairs, where diners can sample half a dozen native or rock oysters,
langoustine mayonnaise or lobster and fennel cocktail. The main courses on the classic-with-a-twist menu are probably better consumed at the smaller tables with banquette seating that line the walls.

Club Gascon
Quietly, with dignity, and eschewing celebrity, Club Gascon has become one of London’s consistently great restaurants. Sure, it has spun off a bar , but it remains low key and expert, with the customer very definitely king. Service is well judged and egalitarian. The room – marble-lined, dimly lit, with statement flowers – is clubbily atmospheric, but the feeling of luxurious well-being that Gascon engenders probably stems from the sensual effect of its artistically conceived, beautifully presented food.

Fifth Floor
Five floors above the workaday life of street level, there’s something otherworldly about Fifth Floor. Perhaps it’s the feminine decor: blue walls, rounded corners, with unusual vertical lighting tubes casting a glamorous glow across the spacious dining area. Food can be on the ethereal side too.
