The Lawn, Oliver Peyton's latest café

    West

    Duke of Sussex
A boldly diverse selection of draught beers, a well-considered wine list and a large, sensitively refurbished bar keep the pub in this gastro set-up on the Acton side of Chiswick. The dining room opens out on to a rather chic, spacious beer garden with plenty of greenery to help soothe (if not tame) the sound of the nearby traffic. Spanish and British dishes feature on the menu – of the former we’ve enjoyed crisp morcilla fritters with piquillo sauce and a superb Santiago tart.

    Greek Affair
Service is leisurely and helpful at this tucked-away Greek bistro near the Gate cinema in Notting Hill. The roof terrace has room for ten tables, and babies and children are welcome. Spanakopitta (spinach filo pastries) are the pick of the starters; for mains we recommend the punchy baked fish with tomatoes and herbs. Vegetarians will be pleased by the range of options.

    The Lawn
Nestled by Thames-side Bishop’s Park, and something of a secret to everyone except perhaps Fulham locals, The Lawn has been owned by bishops of London for more than 1,300 years. Now Oliver Peyton and his catering team have moved into the old bishops’ drawing room and have set up a leisurely café-cum-retreat with all the design verve we’ve come to expect from his company. Sit in comfortable, striped cushion chairs under smart black umbrellas and look out over the deckchair-spotted lawns. The kitchen’s hot food includes marinated spatchcocked chicken with Jersey royals, watercress and red onion salad, and a Barnsley chop of mash-fed lamb with roast shallots, prunes and lambs lettuce.

    Megan’s Delicatessen
Way past the World’s End, few would guess that this unappealing stretch of the Kings Road secretes a friendly café garden that’s open all day serving dishes made from scratch on site. Lunch on salmon and coconut curry, a piece of ham and cheddar tart, Asian-style slaw, a sandwich made with sourdough or rye bread, or a platter of antipasti and charcuterie.
    Megan’s Delicatessen, 571 Kings Rd, SW6 2EB (020 7371 7837/www.megansdeli.com) Fulham Broadway tube.

    Saran Rom

This classy Thai restaurant has 28 tables on its heated outdoor terrace, overlooking the Thames. Enjoy confident Thai cooking such as the pleasantly springy fishcakes, garlic- and pepper-fried soft shell crab, and roast duck in spicy coconut milk soup.
Saran Rom, Imperial Wharf, Townmead Rd, SW6 2UB (020 7751 3111/www.saranrom.com) Fulham Broadway tube then 391, C3 bus.

    Waterfront
This Young’s pub is a part of a new development overlooking the Thames and Wandsworth Bridge, but don’t let that put you off. The cooking is remarkably sophisticated for pub grub, and there are numerous outdoor benches and tables so you’re virtually guaranteed an outdoor seat.
Waterfront, Baltimore House, Juniper Drive, SW18 1TZ (020 7228 4297) Wandsworth Town rail or 295 bus.

Does "North" stop at Islington? Where are the other areas of the Northern part of the city in your restaurant reviews? Where are the places in Wood Green? Enfield? Muswell Hill? How about Ally Pally? talk about a great place to have lunch with a view....
Does it all have to be slick gastropub cuisine or can a simple cafe in a great location get a look in?
I am referring to the cafe at Trent Park, which is located between Enfield and Barnet. A stunning location,
a treat at the end of a hike through the park's lovely scenery.
Car park gets full in the summer in nice weather, but the entrance to the park (and a short walk to the cafe) is near Cockfosters Tube - last stop on the Picadilly line (or is that a train too far?)

Have your say
