    Golden Hind
    This Greek-owned institution serves some of the best fish and chips in the capital, with plenty of local character. Around £30 for two with service. No corkage charge.

    Casa Brasil

    A tiny, family-friendly eatery that provides a good introduction into Brazilian cuisine. The pão de queijo (manioc flour cheese buns) are a highlight. Around £30 for two with service. Corkage £1 per person.

    Five Hot Chillies
    Contrary to its name, here you’ll find authentic Punjabi cooking that won’t scorch the tastebuds. Plump for the juicy lamb kebabs and dishes made in the traditional karahi – an iron wok. Around £25 for two with service. No corkage charge.

    19 Numara Bos Cirrik

    What started as a pop-up operation has grown roots and plans to stay - for a while at least. It's open for breakfast, lunch, weekend brunch and dinner on Thursday and Friday, and changing internationally themed menus keep the cooking interesting. No corkage charge.

    That's not right about Tayyabs. I was there a couple of weeks ago and shared a bottle of wine with lunch.

    Why does East never come further than Whitechapel or Hackney? We have a fabulous Thai in Leytonstone (E11) that this website has reviewed favourably a few times. Great fresh food, NO corkage & cheap. Singburi, 593 High Road, Leytonstone, 8 mins walk from Leytonstone tube on the Central line.

    Meshawi - Lebanese restaurant on Putney Hill (three minutes walk from Putney East tube). Good fresh-tasting food, cheap, no corkage.

    Amaranth Thai restaurant in Earlsfield. Great cheap food, BYO and minimal corkage for wine. None for beer!

    Tayabs - Fieldgate St - Tayabs doesn't permit any alcohol at lunchtime.
