My mother(god rest her soul), would take my brothers and I shopping to Shepherds bush market every saturday morning back in the 70's and this was the highlight of the week for us boys after shopping we would all go to cooke's for the best meal of the week(although I can't fault my mums cooking).I grew up working as a fishmonger in the market and can honestly say I have tried food from all around the world and am damned if anything beats the flavour of the pie and liquer from cookes.I now live in somerset as well as thousands of Londoners bought up on the food,I wish there was a cookes in my town,God I miss it soooooo much.
Since the age of 6.(old enough to cross the main road) I have been going to Cookes Goldhawk Road. Relatives lived in Sulgrave Road and I had to go to the pie and eel shop with a basin and jug, 4pence worth (1.5.pence in today's money) of pie mash and licker fed 4 of us. Now 74 still go there when the opportunity arises. CAN'T BEET IT. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
I have eaten Pie and Mash all my life. I have eaten at Cockneys and Manzes, but the best by far was at Cookes, Goldhawk Road, Shepherds Bush before going to the football at Loftus Road.
Nice to see a few in agreement about the Noted, E11. There are some great ones out there but also some real stinkers! Dagenham spring to mind.
@Steve - What was the worst? Wow 8 Quid!
@ Leasha - What was you expecting?
@ Charlie Brook - The one near me in Wickford is £1.75! Now that is value!
@clifford Webb - Happy to send you some frozen if your happy to pay the carriage. I'd be facinated to see how well it would arrive. I believe Mr D Beckham has had some flow over to him!
** Off to hunt in the freezer for those 2 pies and liquor I save for a rainy day :) **

need to win the lotto so i can have a weekl;y airlift of pie mash and liqour,
Goddards in Greenwich is the best. Shame they shut the shop but their van still sells it at Greenwich Market on a saturday. Once you have tasted theirs you know you've had the best
Deffo Noted Eel & Pie in Leytonstone, been going there since i was a teenager in the late 80's and its the best!
Luckily for me i know the pie maker and she brings me them home in Essex! Thanks Sonia!
Tonys in Waltham Abbey is worth a try but the liquor is too thick for me. Noted is where my pie and mash heart is.
For me and certainly all my family the best Pie n Mash ever is Maureens in Chrisp street market, Poplar. The mini pies are delicious as well. Worth a visit. They also do gravy for those who do not like liquor. Also sausage and mash or hot salt beef.
Sweeny Todds pie and mash van in Harlow, Edinburgh Way. Great new set up and does deliveries as well. Have a look at their website sweenytoddspieandmash.com
noted pie n mash leytonstone the best around by far, same as lediards in west ham lane from years ago.....mmmmmmm.
I agree with P&M fan that Noted is the best, I have a problem now though as I have migrated to Perth Australia and miss pie & mash like mad. I have been trying to cook it at home and although not bad I just can't get the pies to burn on the top. can anyone offer any suggestions?
I went back to England last year and my highlight was the 3&2 that i had at Noted.
