    • Lola Rojo

      78 Northcote Road, Clapham, SW11 6QL

Covered terrace? Manchego cheese lollipop? If that combination is your recipe for summer bliss, Lola Roja’s your venue. Fifty or so people can squeeze around the tables on its narrow little terrace on Northcote Road, heated against the chill of late summer evenings, where you get to sample tapas from the bang-on-trend nueva cocina menu. The exquisitely presented Spanish dishes might include crisp aubergine with orange blossom honey or roasted cod with black paella-style pasta and chive foam, as well as more traditional options. The all-Spanish wine list is another selling point, with some brilliant bottles from up-and-coming wine regions. You can’t reserve the outdoor tables, more’s the pity. Read more

    • The Victoria

      10 West Temple Sheen, Barnes, SW14 7RT

This smart restaurant - a former pub - in suburban Sheen was taken over by celebrity chef Paul Merrett last summer and had the garden barbecue pimped up. It now boasts an impressive grill that only gets fired up in good weather. But catch it on a good day and you’ll be able to sit outside in the garden, with children’s play area attached, and enjoy dishes hot from the chargrill. If the weather’s on the turn, there’s still a large conservatory to retreat to. Read more

    • Marco Polo

6-7 Riverside Quarter, Eastfields Avenue, Putney, SW18 1LP

The 60 tables spread across a pair of decks right on the riverfront are a great place to let kids go free-range and watch the Thames flowing past. The Italian menu stops off at most of the pizza and pasta options you’d anticipate, but with plenty of fish (sea bass, halibut) and meat (veal chop, calf’s liver) too. The three-course set lunch is competitive at £11.95. Desserts are well-trodden trat classics, but there is also banoffee pie on the menu. Read more

Yep...interesting places but far from best alfresco fine dining...
I'd suggest Coq D'Argent (Bank tube) - amazing beautiful terrace and great food...Check out 'In the Park' - lovey there! (St James) ....The Salt House (Abbey Road)...+ many more

Wow, Glad that North London is getting typical comprehensive coverage...
    Good Job to be honest,
But I am pretty sure that N4, N16 and N5 exist.... but not in the ultra cool world of Timeout...
Just how do you get a job as a Timeout reviewer?
I'm sure I could do it, as long as I had my imagination removed.

I also do not see the RIBA restaurant and cafe's gorgeous terrace on the list. I was there yesterday and it is like a grand oasis on a hot day.

I can't believe you've overlooked the Tree House in your dining outside piece. It's easily the best food in easily the best setting.
Please send someone and do a proper review if you don't believe me.
