This all-day café, wine bar and shop all rolled into one offers a haven for oenophiles. The ground-floor bar has a real fire, leather sofas and welcoming young staff, while downstairs you’ll find the wine-tasting tables, as well as the wine cellar.
The wine list is stylistically and geographically diverse: around 50 wines are stocked at any one time, ranging from the odd cliché (Cloudy Bay sauvignon blanc, a Chateau Musar from Lebanon) through good-value options (Alsatian whites, a Sicilian red) to recognised classics (Kiwi pinot noirs, a red burgundy).
The real appeal of Finborough is not just the wines but the opportunity to learn about them: for £8, you can taste 12 wines of your choice. Knowledgeable staff attend throughout, making a real effort to engage every level of wine appreciator. During the day, coffees, Jing teas and pastries are available, and the bar menu keeps it very simple with cheese or meat boards and breads.
