  • A great place for a special treat, especially when the reduced price menu is on early eve or early week. I agree, not great for vegetarians, but impeccable service and great atmosphere.

  • Went to Fredericks with 7 friends last night and I must be honest, the menu at Fredericks is really disappointing! Being vegetarian there was only two options to choose from, and the one was out of stock. The result was that there was ons pasta dish available, over priced and extremely tasteless. The desert menu is ok, with a decent choice. Overall I would say don't waste your time, unless you like tasteless and over priced food. The waiters are even worse... Everything you ask is an effort for them, and don't think they offer to get you a drink, for that you've got to walk to the bar to order! And then there's the 12.5 % service charge... But no service.

  • Me and my girlfriend went to Fredericks on quiet Wednesday evening. Unfortunately even if you book the table in advance they can't guarantee you good table, as any table can be given to bigger company and you have to pray them to get a table in good location. The food was OK, but just OK not fine for such an high-end restaurant they claim they are applying such a high price policy for their menu. Portions were very tiny so we left this place half empty paid for starters+main course+desert something around 90 pounds. What's about service it was really not worth 12.5% we paid for them as a service charge ( how can argue and don't pay it in front of your girlfriend? ). Wine glasses were always empty and we had to wait at least 10 minutes for them to be filled, same for water, bread was offered just once and we had to wait 8 minutes for empty plates to be removed although 6! waiters were working around. Also they claim, that they can offer 50% TasteCard discount, but actually we were offered just fixed 15 pounds discount without any explanation, so it was like rip-off for me. As conclusion: for such a price you can find excellent service, big portions and better ambience in any posh Mayfair restaurants and not in tiny family-run place in Islington.

  • On 12/11/10, my husband and I went to Fredericks. It was Friday, but it was early, 6pm, so fairly quiet. You could tell it was quiet, as there were waiting staff standing around. Unfortunately, standing around looking bored does not mean being attentive to customers. Our menus came, but it was c.10mins before a waiter came to take our order. We ordered our meal and wine. I'd finished my water and my husband had almost finished his. The waitress came to change the cutlery. Not a single word was said to us, no hello, nothing. Nor did she notice that we needed more water. Wine arrived halfway through our starter. We asked the waiter for water. Starters finished and we waited patiently for our water. Eventually we had to ask another waiter for it. I'm quite happy to pour my own wine, but if Fredericks insists on keeping the bottle with the waiting staff, I think it is their responsibility to ensure that our glasses are filled. Yes, you guessed it, we finished our wine. I pointed out to my husband that there were four members of staff standing near the serving area and not noticing our empty wine glasses. I bet him that if I went to the loo, I'd come back and still find our wine glasses empty. I won the bet, so we had to ask the waitress for our wine. The mains arrived at c.6.50pm, steak and chips. Firstly, Fredericks may think it looks attractive to have a steak on a plate and then the bearnaise sauce in a little pot on the plate and chips on a dish also placed on the plate, but all this 'fancy stuff' does is tell the diner that the restaurant is trying to make the plate look full when the steak is small and there are hardly any chips on the plate. Anyway I asked the waitress for mustard and Worcestershire sauce and then waited and waited and waited for it. Meanwhile my meal was getting colder and colder and seven minutes later she came back with the sauces. Regardless of how many dishes they crammed on the plate, the steak was tough and gristly. Oh, yes, then our wine glasses were empty again. This time the staff weren't standing around, even worse some of them were walking up and down the dining room, unfortunately just exercising, not being attentive, as none of them noticed the empty wine glasses so we had to ask again. I said to the waiter 'Please just fill my husband's glass', obviously they have listening problems too, as he still filled mine. We were very disappointed with our visit as in the past although the food has been 'ok' what made up for it was the good service. I hope last night's experience was not a sign of how service is going to be in the future. However, I doubt very much if we'll find out too soon, as it may be a long while before we return after that experience! Not a contender for Ramsey’s Best Restaurant in terms of food or service.

  • Terrible food-cold & overcooked. One of our party waited 10 extra minutes for his main only for them to bring the wrong dish. He was then told if he wanted what he ordered it would be another 30 mins! A fight broke out on another table & staff did nothing. Extremely overpriced, it seems they are trying to do too much & fit in as many covers as possible at the expense of decent service. It doesn't deserve the hype. And I do hope the nice owners realise the staff are largely unhelpful, unfriendly, and somewhat incompetant.

  • Beautiful surroundings, good starter that was unfortunately followed by finding two cockroaches at two separate occasions. Upon trying to alert the manager discreetly this manner, was some what ignored. This is not something I have ever found neither something that is acceptable considering his manner or indeed the large bill that followed
