Gail’s is a younger cousin of Baker & Spice, but is growing quickly since its Hampstead birth. Staff at the St John’s Wood branch, which can squeeze about 16 diners inside, are a hyper-chirpy lot, yet to their credit cope well with the area’s high-maintenance customers. Good-looking sandwiches and salads (feta and mango, say, or moroccan chicken with couscous) form the backbone of the lunch menu. We loved the feta, aubergine and egg bureka, a rich layer of undercooked pastry adding to its delectableness.
