Gurkha’s Flavour serves eat-in or takeaway Indian and Nepalese cuisine to Forest Hill locals. Food is keenly priced and the menu includes traditional Indian dishes as well as more unusual ones such as momo (lamb or vegetable dumpling with tomato chutney), masu bhutuwa (lamb in Nepalese spices, spring onion and coriander), chicken nargis (diced chicken tikka cooked with mushroom, asparagus and red wine) and rapti jhol (tilapia fillet with mustard seeds, curry leaves, tomato and tamarind).

Purchasing a Time Out voucher for 2 courses and a drink for 2 off the cuff, I didn't have a chance to do my research into this place beforehand. I just saw it was local to me and jumped for it. Then I did some research, and I'll tell you what, I was not expecting good things from this place. The Tripadvisor reviews didn't fill me with much confidence at all! And then when I arrived on a Tuesday evening to find a completely empty, dinky little restaurant - possibly 20 covers max - I was even more worried.

BUT BOY WAS I WRONG!!!

The waiter was dead attentive and welcoming, and sat us down easily. He then explained what food and drink was/wasn't included on the voucher we'd purchased, and also gave us a recommendation or two! Starter wise I went for the tradition MoMo - a Nepalese steamed dumpling stuffed with minced lamb and served with a slightly spicy tomato chutney. It was delicious. My only complaint here is that there wasn't enough! I could have eaten two or three portions.

Main course wise I had a lamb saag and my partner had a chicken tikka masala - both of which we agreed were the best we'd ever tasted! We ordered a pilau rice for one and a plain naan bread to go with it. The rice was definitely only for one person - we just about managed to share it.

As we'd bought a voucher I don't know how much the total bill should've come to, but I would estimate around £30 for two people. Mains were roughly £7 each, with rice a couple of pound extra. Veggie sides were around £4/£5 each.

I would urge you to ignore the poor reviews of this place, and don't be put off by it's size - I'm already planning to visit here again as soon as I can, it's honestly my new favourite Indian Restaurant!

I ate two courses of really lovely food here. The staff were really friendly and gave loads of good advice about the menu. It was pretty reasonably priced too. Worth going out of your way for.
