The restaurant Gregg's Table in Bermondsey is currently closed, following filming of the Hotel GB tv show. It was the setting for the much-publicised tv series starring Gordon Ramsay and Mary Portas, called 'Hotel GB'. Gok Wan was bar manager and Phil Spencer (of 'Location Location') was the maitre d' during the filming.
The series took over Gregg's Table, a brasserie with the involvement of Masterchef presenter Gregg Wallace, which opened in February 2012 to a barrage of negative feedback (see below) and reviews.
The restaurant is inside the revamped brasserie of the Bermondsey Square Hotel, in a regenerated area just off Tower Bridge Road. Bermondsey Square itself is a curious mix of handsome Victorian heritage and privately owned 'public' space, the sort now found across London from Spitalfields to the Isle of Dogs.
On calling the hotel and asking for the restaurant on 8 October, some days after the series had finished, we were still put through to an old recorded message for Gregg's Table. Gregg Wallace's other restaurant is Wallace & Co in Putney.
