Fay Maschler's right. This is indian cuisine at its best. Neither a dodgy "family" dive with greasy curries nor a rip-off west-end "Nouvelle" Indian. Just inventive, beautifully spiced takes on the classics and plenty of interesting regional detours. Highly, highly recommended.

Indian Zing restaurant in Hammersmith has won rave reviews its modern, light yet robustly-flavoured Indian food. Indeed, it’s one of Fay Maschler’s Top Five Indian restaurants. Formerly Deputy head chef at Chutney Mary and Head Chef at Veeraswamy, chef-proprietor Manoj Vasiakar has got the traditional / contemporary mix right on the money. Deciding what to have is agony – so make your mates promise to share, then start with Prawn and Aubergine Kharkhatla and move on to the delicately-spiced Fish Shirale (cooked in coconut milk and finished with onion and tomato masala) or the crackingly good Duck Chettinad. With spot-on service, elegantly relaxed surroundings and very reasonable prices, this Indian will make your heart Zing.
