A stalwart of the North Wembley scene, Karahi King may not score highly for decor or hospitality, but locals use this spot because it serves decent-value food and has a BYO drinks policy. As you might guess from the name, karahi dishes rule here – all your old curry house favourites cooked and served Punjabi-style in two-handled metal bowls. Take your pick from methi keema (mince with fenugreek), saag ghost, ginger chicken or king prawns with mushrooms; otherwise, go down the veggie route with egg curry, chana paneer or jeera aloo (cumin-spiced potatoes). If you don’t want booze, you can always stay with a jug of plain or fruity lassi.
