King Edward VII

This nineteenth-century, Grade II-listed pub was once called the King of Prussia, before it changed its name to this altogether more-patriotic moniker shortly after Edward VII's death in 1910. It's known by locals today as the King Eddie.

It's been sympathetically renovated but remains divided by ornately tiled walls and frosted-glass dividers. There's a sunken bar, too, as well as a dark-wood saloon bar, a back room and a little patio out back.

Beer is a focus, with draught options including Deuchars IPA, Timothy Taylor's Landlord, Adnam's Broadside and Hopback Summer Lightning. There's food of a gastropub bent, too – think dishes such as confit duck leg, steak and chips, and posh burgers.

Great, honest boozer in the heart of Stratford. Friendly, good wine, good food.

East London I

The time out review is really out of date. Gone is the old landlord and the delicious, changing seasonal menu. Gone is the shabby, authentic decor and gone is anything like a decent beer selection. Instead you have a menu that doesn't change, a surface-level facelift which parks the pub somewhere between old and cheap fashion forward wallpaper, an awful selection of fizzy lagers and a lot of grime that never seems to go away. Last time I went, the toilet drainage was open, bathrooms were filthy, no soap and lots of flies. If you're allowed to see this, makes me wonder what the kitchen is like! Staff all seem to have a bee in their bonnet about something - probably working for such a horrid pub. What a shame.

Was a great pub with great atmosphere but music is so loud now you can't hear yourself think let alone your friends speak. Very disappointing
