It looks like a café, sounds like a café and serves food in café-sized portions, but the globetrotting menu at La Cafeteria is more inventive than most local lunch spots, and the food of a much higher quality. It also now opens Thursday to Sunday evenings, thanks to public demand. Dishes skirt the shores of the Mediterranean, covering inventive pastas (penne with bacon, spinach, olives and sun-dried tomatoes, for instance), elaborate salads and hearty, healthy couscous options before landing back on home turf with bangers, burgers and reliably belt-busting breakfasts. Local office workers tend to nip in for one of a range of top-notch baguettes or toasted sandwiches, while a variety of papers and magazines encourage those with time on their hands to linger a while; the atmosphere is family friendly throughout.
