One of a number of café-delis to have sprouted locally in recent years, Lemon Monkey stocks a decent selection of wines, cheeses and assorted high-end groceries, many organic or Fairtrade, and all enticingly displayed in the spacious, sophisticated interior. An informal peppering of tables and chairs caters to café customers. Eat-in food takes the form of superior sandwiches – we loved the smoked mackerel with capers on thinly sliced rye bread – along with a selection of good-looking salads and cakes, including a superb apricot tart. Seating is spread over two levels; the raised section at the back is a great place to retreat for a mid-afternoon coffee and a perusal of the papers.
