I once enjoyed Pie and Mash on Canvey Island, of all places. It was the late eighties so I don't know if the place still exists.

Excellent Pie and Mash AND they were playing Northern Soul!! Nothing more to say, other than "Keep The Faith"

Just been to F. Cooke, 150 Hoxton St. my best eel and liquor yet and nice people too.

Manze and Goddards on Deptford High Street are no longer serving eel.  They blame short supply of eel but maybe Deptford demand is changing

Manzes 105 Peckham High Street. Manzes pies are THE PIE of all pies, delicious comfort food, piping hot pies with a good round of mash n liquor, friendly staff and a great value place to go and eat. You can purchase the pies to take away or mail order to anywhere in the country. My mums friend in Devon gets them delivered as she used to live in London and like myself is a loyal devotee! Yummy food that will make your tunny happy and at a reasonable price. Merchandise can be purchased in the shop.

i found it very expensive, no toilets at all, cold and uninviting, wish we had gone somewhere else. I wish I could chose no stars but this will not let me.

Cookes in the Bush is a rip off cashing in on the Quadrophinia connection. Gal C is right £8 for a double when the going rate is £6.70!! no OAP discount ether. as for chili vinegar never seen a bottle in there in my life!bland liquor and tasteless pies Cockneys down portobello rd knocks spots off cookes Micheal your deluded mate went lakeside on Thursday and had pie and mash at Sainsys (a Goddards of Greenwich outlet) and it that was a far better experience even on a paper plate and eaten with plastic cutlery!!

Arnents since 1914 Woolworth best in London have been eating their pies since I was 5 I am now 76

Go to Cookes Shepherds Bush if you want to pay £8 double pie mash & liqueur. Better off going to Harringtons, Tooting same £4 but better. Cookes is a rip off, exploiting a traditional, cheap elder persons meal. Star rating is for Harringtons

Well, people keep forgetting a great place in the Bush, A.Cookes. Established 1899 (sorry M.Manze). It has had a film slot, bringing the 60's back to life with it's dated decor in Quadrophenia. Seen many a star walk through it's doors from the not so far BBC. I had been spoon fed that georgous liquor since i was a chubby lub stuck in a highchair. Had always been a regular there and it never changed it's recipe, still original and in my mind the best. I have eaten in many all over London, Wandsworth (was good), Arsenal, Bow (both), Bethnal, Walthamstow, London Bridge, Labrokes, Greenford (horrid), Rotherhithe, and some i can't remember. Well i suppose after dinning on it almost from birth i would seem bias at best. Please go and give it a try, it might be in the west, but it can't be bad if it is still serving it steaming hot with the eels to this day, stewed or jellied! Oh, and splash on the non-brewed chilli vinegar, it's delicious.

@Les wale Yes there is. It's G. Kelly and my childhood Pie and Mash home. It's still going strong and also serves fruit (apple or cherry) pies in the same style.
I manage to get down there once in a while and it hasn't changed a bit in the 45 years I've been going there.

There used to be two Kellys on Roman Road, but only the St. Stephen's Road end one remains.
