London's 'underground' restaurants
Will be in London with my friend May 14-17. She is a chef and I am a bartender and love to cook. Any suggestions for a great underground restaurant?
a taste full space join pop-up hosts Platterform at the Free Word Centre in Farringdon on Saturday 23rd of July (8pm til 2am). Loosely based around the theme of the SURVIVALIST. The night will consist of a three course meal, conceptual drinks by the FIREWATER Society, performances, new art works and music from the art based group SPACECRAFT who are closely associated with a taste full space. There are 30 tickets for the meal but anyone can come down after 10.30pm for drinks, music and to enjoy the art work.
The Basement Galley is our new addition to the London supper club scene. In our home in Brixton we serve delicious food in a setting ripe for socialising with friends or making new friends. For more information visit our facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Basement-Galley-Supper-Club/223609634321578?sk=info or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
We normally check out the latest on the underground scene on this site: http://supperclubfangroup.ning.com/ Beware, the quality tend to vary a lot. We can definitely recommend Fernandez & Leluu, charming and good food. If you are looking for something different and more intimate in Central London, try Cadrega, a new Italian Supper club in Marylebone, with really excellent food, freshly homemade pastas, etc. (only problem is that they only take 6 bookings per dinner...) Also, we loved Friday Dinner Secrets, run by an anglo-argentine couple. Great food in a lovely settitng. This is in Reading, but for us it was worth the trip!
You will find us tucked away in Tufnell Park. Come and take a seat around the big library table in the candelit basement and enjoy a North Indian feast. We are into our second year and still loving it! Thanks to all of you who have feasted so far! We are fully booked for this Saturday but more dates are avaliable this month. www.jogindersupperclub.wordpress.com
I was only recently introduced to the underground Supper Club experience and was extremely lucky to have 'lost my virginity' the Parkholme Road Supper Club in Dalston: http://www.parkholmesupperclub.co.uk It was a Syrian night, the chef Alicia, who does all this for charity, had actually gone to Syria to research and bring back special ingredients! 16 of us, from all walks of life and all parts of London and beyond, were sitting in a beautiful dining room around a large table which was laden with the most delicious dishes, from kibbeh to lamb with quince braised in pomegranate juice to various mezzes. The atmosphere was informal and very friendly, Alicia’s cooking is out of this world, and I can’t wait to go to another of her themed nights – her culinary skills include all kinds of global cuisines. I believe the next supper club is on January 5th – I can’t recommend it enough!

I went to the Penhouse Kitchen for dinner with some friends and it was fantastic. The food was amazing and the hosts made everyone feel so comfortable and wellcome. We met some great people and had a fabulous evening.

I've also started up an afternoon tea club in North East London called the n15 tea party. Think pink fizz in hand, bunting hanging in the window, Nina Simone on the stereo, book swaps, crafty afternoons, big pots of tea, cakes and scones and good conversation. http://then15teaparty.blogspot.com/

Hi all!!! We are having a russian fusion feast on the 27th of Jan, 2010. we have a lovely home, are very good company and would like to invite like minded people to come along. You won't leave hungry, the food will be delicious and you'll find out a lot about Russian cooking you never knew(including how delicious it can be). But our focus goes beyond the food. we'd just like everyone to have a nice time and have a few laughs. we're not in it for money so if you are keen to enjoy a weeknight evening out and come along, details are: contact: firstname.lastname@example.org area: camden/caledonian road cost: donation of £15 p/p
We have had a cancellation for saturday 12th Dec. So come and join us for fantastic Punjabi food and a most memorable pre - Xmas meal.
Hi I'll be heading off to Smithfield and Billingsgate twice more in the run up to Christmas. Once on the 16th, then again on Wednesday the 23rd. If anyone wants anything for Christmas, especially goose or turkey, let me know as soon as you can, so I can get myself organised. The Gressingham geese at £11.50 per kilo are particularly good - all fed a macrobiotic diet and living (for the moment) in small flocks in Sussex. Oysters too are fantastic; I've found a Billingsgate fishmonger who can supply wooden boxes (with the seaweed and everything) of twenty five Scottish oysters for £25. He only gets three boxes a day though, so it's first come, first served. Then there's the whole salamis as well. And Parmesan. And legs of gammon. Everything you'd want for Christmas. Let me know as soon as you can, and I'll get it to you for Christmas. mw x

And look forward to meeting you in our secret restaurant.
Kermit: none of the ingredients I use are cheap.Anyone looking at the dishes I cook and reading my blog will know that. Perhaps you don't like vegetarian food (although I am pescatarian and do cook fish). Nor is it randomly cooked. If you didn't like it, perhaps you could have said something to me at the time? With specific complaints? I'd be interested to know which meal you came to. It hurts to read something like that, anonymous comments. I can assure you I make nothing like £1,500 a week.I make a couple of hundred pounds if I'm lucky.
These underground diners sound amazing. As you can tell im new to this whole experiance and i am very keen to find a place within the Kent or surrounding area. Can anyone recommend somewhere with good home cooked food and a lovely ambiance?

Interesting article.....but I think I've been lucky enough to find something even better....a friend of mine referred me recently to 'Your Thai Chef' - a personal chef who can bring a 'restaurant' to you. I've already had 2 dinner parties at my place..and the food is great!
