I read some of the reviews and am shocked. This place is very good, although pricey. The meat is tender and juicy, salsas all homemade and I found a lot of creative taco dishes on the menu. The Gorbenador (spelling?) With prawns and a spicy chipotle-esque sauce is amazing. Margaritas are perfect too made with real juice...not cheap mixes. Tables are small and the food takes time, but it's worth it.

The owners of Lupita showed some savvy when choosing Villiers Street – the narrow, crowded hill that runs between Embankment tube and Charing Cross station – as the place to set up shop.
By day, this good-looking, capable Mexican restaurant gets passing trade from tourists and office workers; by night, it’s descended on by commuters and revellers, many of whom are tipsy and hungry.
Choose carefully, and you can construct an interesting meal here. Choose drunkenly, and you can have large helpings of well-made stodge to sustain you on the journey home.
Many dishes qualify in both categories, such as the quesadillas nopales: two folded flour pancakes, stuffed with cheese and Mexican cactus.
Elsewhere, results are more mixed; had it not been for the addition of some of the excellent salsas, our carnitas – shredded barbecued pork, served on an open corn taco – would have been a tad plain.
Likewise, though fresh and satisfying, ‘guacamole artesanal’ could have done with an extra squeeze of lime (and wasn’t made at the table, as promised by the menu). The mostly Mexican staff were calm under pressure, despite the occasionally boisterous customers they have to deal with.

I could find no fault with the food or drinks here. As soon as I saw Horchata and Flor de Jamaica on the menu I knew I was in good hands! The meal didn't disappoint (we tried a burrito and enchiladas) and staff really knew the menu. Although we didn't order much (or so we thought) the meal was filling and kept me satiated for many hours. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and have every intention of visiting again.
Went to this Mexican place by charing cross the other night for a party with friends, most who had been here before and always talk about how great the food and drinks are. Mi can't believe I waited so long to finally try it! Spicy dishes, lots of choices and a everything was very tasty and fresh. Cristina our waitress was very nice and friendly as well!
Myself and a few friends thought that it's been such a gratefull experience find a restaurant where the food taste like home. Mexico is a country with a contrast on flavours and with such a rich cuisine. Definitely Lupita tick all the boxes. A few Mexican friends told me about it and I could not believe that tacos al pastor where available out of Mexico!!! Wow! And the salsas served for the tacos where so yummi!! Just like grandmother did. We had guacamole artesanal prepared on our table. That is such a plus I'd you are looking for fresh food. We tried Chicharron de queso, costras, alambres and it was just like in the taco shops in Mexico!! We wonder how they managed to have all this together in central London. A real taco shop where we as Mexicans can hang out for a taco like if we were in our country. The carnitas where super and we tried the Sopa de verduras, and all of us Agreed that tasted like home again. The restaurant was packed in a few minutes and the Mexican music loud and vibrant made out night as all of us end up singing and having out favourites tequilas. We had chance to chat with the waitress who was from Mexico aswell and we want to thanks her for such a great time!!! Not only to her but to who ever is behind of such a cool restaurant. We definitely advise to any one feeling home sick to visit this venue!!!
Had an amazing time at this place the other night. The staff is friendly, the food is as real mexican as you can get in London! The Pastor tasted just like it does in Mexico City. The Chicarron was great as well and also the ceviche is fresh and served on an avocado. It you want to eat real mexican you got to check this place out. Great margaritas too. Will be a regular here now that I found it.
Had a great meal out with a friend. The guacamole was good, especially with the chipotle sauce. The tuna Tostada and pork tacos were both amazing. Highly recommend.
This is definitely the best mexican food in London by far. My partner and I shared the Totopas Clasicos which was delicious. I had the prawn tacos which were recommended by the waitress which were amazing. I also had Aguacate Relleno, which was half an avocado stuffed with ceviche. It was fresh and tasteful. My partner had the Chicharron with guacamole which was a crispy fried cheese and then the arrachera steak quesadillas which he raved about all night long. The restaurant was lively and all the staff friendly and helpful. I liked how everyone seemed to be taking care of all of the customers in the restaurant and delivering the food quickly to the tables after it was prepared. The music was great as well and really added to the atmosphere of the place. Great job Lupita! Can't wait to go back again!
I honestly can't rate Lupita high enough. The staff are friendly and attentive and the food is fresh and delicious. It was my second visit and will definitely keep going back. The Guacamole was made freshly in front of us (it's worth paying extra for), the Nopales and Smoked Chicken Burrito equally delicious. Go crazy with the different salsas and chilli sauces they provide and squeeze lime to your taste. This is fresh Mexican eating at it's best, not greasy Tex-Mex! Definitely check it out!
I celebrated my birthday yesterday at Lupita and was very impressed by the customer service and the extent to which the staff went to make our night special, so wanted to express my gratitude online by way of a good review. We had a great night and felt very comfortable. The food was amazing with very interesting flavours, and different to what we were used to, ie Tex Mex. I especially enjoyed the margaritas! Therefore I was really surprised to come across some of these comments. Given the choice, for me Lupita would win every time, especially on authenticity compared to alot of other restaurants. For anyone reading these reviews, I would recommend trying Lupita for yourself and making your own opinion.
I went to Lupita on Villiers Street with my mates from work. We have been seated in the basement next to the toilet. The smell in the basement was terrible. The seats were very uncomfortable. We ordered a range of tacos, which were surprisingly small if you take in consideration the price we paid for them! Food looked boring and disappointing. In the middle of our visit in Lupita suddenly one of my friends started to scream, as she just seen a MOUSE running just next to our table!!! Disgusting!!! I don't even want to think how the kitchen looks like in this restaurant if mice are running around in the restaurant. Do not go there if you don't want to catch some disease! The place is dirty and overpriced I wouldn't advise it to anyone to eat there!
Easily the best Mexican food in London. The food was fast and tasty, the staff very friendly. The selection was huge and authentic. I liked the music and fun atmosphere and simply the best margarita I've had anywhere. Try it!
Overpriced and very bland food! A real disappointment as I was looking forward to this place. The burritos are practically tasteless and almost double the price of those at Chipotle! We constantly had to ask for sour cream and chilli sauces so the food was cold by the time we had enough flavourings to improve it
I stumbled upon this place at the weekend, a fairly large sized group-16 people. They sat us down straight away and even gave us our own section downstairs which we appreciated. I was quite excited by the menu and my mouth was watering after reading the drinks menu. However, once our orders were put through things went downhill straight away! In such a large group we lost track of time and didnt realise our drinks hadnt arrived even after an hour. Our waiter was frazzled and didn't communicate with us. We each got our drinks seperately and that took another 45 minutes. He did not apologise for the delay or give us a reason. Finally a plate of food came out, but the relief was short lived as it took another 20 minutes for another plate to come out. After everyone had got there food I was still left without a dish, when he came out he brought the wrong dish and told me I must've forgotten my order!!!the cheek! I think I know the difference between chorizo and beef! We spent 2 and a half hours in this restaurant and it was a complete nightmare I honestly regret stepping into this place. The food was good when it actually arrived but I was seething after the treatment my friends and I endured! Our waiter was rude, confrontational and unapologetic. The manager was understanding and apologised, but that waiter should not be in the hospitality industry especially with that attitude.
Tasty mushroom quesadillas, but would've been very plain without the sauces. And I did think I've made better at home, but that's not to say it was unpleasant. Friendly waitress and some of the best nachos I've had. Good place for a lunchtime pit-stop or a tasty drunken snack.
Went last night and had a dreadful time. Arrived, and the place smelled faintly like a toilet. Stood in the doorway for a minute or two before asking a passing waiter if I could sit down. Sat in the window, by the door, and lost my iPod down the back of the bench. Spent ten minutes with my partner trying to fish it out - no help offered from the staff until we asked, at which point they offered to hoover it out at the end of the meal. Ordered two beers, only one arrived, five minutes later. Ordered two chicken burritos (surely the staple, plain vanilla of any Mexican restaurant) and were served two, just-warm and very flat wraps filled mostly with cream and strong tasting cheddar, along with the second beer. Ate those very quickly, so ordered some Nachos Classicos, at £6.95, to fill ourselves up. The resulting bowl was generously proportioned, but tasted mostly of ingredients made by Doritos. In general, Lupito feels like a place recently put under new management: it's grubby, the staff have little direction from a young manager, and the food has been value-engineered into using cheaper ingredients. My partner had to pass two waitresses arguing with each other on the way to the ladies - which sort of says it all. At £33 for two beers, two very disappointing wraps and a bowl of nachos, I shan't be returning.
Lupita is the worst Mexican restaurant in central London. 10 years ago, it would have been novel, and would have gained some points, but Taqueria, Wahaca, Pacific (yes, it is tex mex), and even some of the burrito upstarts like Chipotle, And Mas Burrito (but not Benitos Hat, unless you want grissle instead of meat) will give you a better meal. Lupita will always bring images of tasteless slop wrapped in corn products to my mind. Sorry guys, I was excited when you opened a back in 2010, but I think you need a serious rethink.
I am a big fan of Lupita where I go on a regular basis since last autumn. I think the quality of the food and drinks are excellent, the service friendly, the atmosphere relaxed and fresh and the prices very good. It has become one of my favourite retaurants in Londonand certainly my favourite Mexican restaurant (which food I know very well for having been to Mexico many times and having tried all Mexican restaurants in London).
I went last night and I have to say I was relatively disappointed. The food was tasty but we waited for an hour and a half for our food. It wasn't even busy when we were there. This was utterly ridiculous as we only ordered taco's each which you would expect to be cooked in a less then half of this time. I would be willing to try this place again as the food was intriguiging, although they seriously have to up their game on the service.
