The orginal Cobb Street branch is tiny, so it’s not surprising that Moo! opened a second venue, in late 2012. Also located among the dog-eared backstreets of the Square Mile, it has 65 covers – hardly huge, but our experience suggests it’s about right for now. Although our food was excellent, the service was concerning – staff were seriously friendly but short on English. An appetiser of chorizo on ciabatta was taken to another level by a fabulous version of chimichurri sauce: buzzing with herbs, it was as silky and red as the inside of a steak. An empanada filled with zinging chunks of beef, egg and olive was a bargain at just over £2. The highlight was a fabulous portion of sweetbreads, tasting like slivers of tender chicken thigh and practically fizzing with lime. A ribeye was good though not mind-blowing, while a napolitana came as cheese-smothered breaded steak topped with a pleasingly tacky slice of tomato. Lomitos (sandwiches) with mainly meaty fillings, and steaks priced by the 100g are also available. Menu graphics are chain-like, furniture looks a little cheap and they offer mayo and ketchup – this is fun, Argentinian dining without the wallet-busting steak worship.
