Mother Flipper

Humble market stall it may be, but mother-f...lipper.... the burgers are brilliant. Fat, juicy patties, crafted from a blend of 28-day aged cuts, are grilled on a little hotplate and anointed with one of three toppings: molten cheese (Mother Flipper Cheese Burger, £5), hot-and-sweet pickled red jalapeños (Chilli Flipper, £5.50) or thick strips of 'candied' bacon (Double Candy Bacon Flipper, £6), then popped onto a rich brioche bun with lettuce, pickles and onions.

We liked the Chilli Flipper best - the piquant heat of the chilli slices a terrific foil to the intense flavour of the beef. There currently aren't any side dishes, but you can buy a cold can of pop to wash down your lunch. You'll usually find them on Tuesdays at 'Kerb' (the street food gathering previously known as near King's Cross, or on Saturdays at Brockley Market, but it's worth checking their twitter page on the day.

Venue name: Mother Flipper
Address: Kerb Food, King's Boulevard
Opening hours: Open 11am-2.30pm Tuesdays only (also at Brockley Market, SE4: 10am-2pm Saturdays)
Transport: Tube: King's Cross tube, St Pancras rail.

My friend, who was a devout burger-lover (now vegan, but I won't talk about that) put me onto this place two years ago. Their candied bacon burger is to DIE FOR. Well, not really, because then you couldn't carry on eating it.

Amazingly good, tasty beef, cheese and bacon that has been fried in maple syrup makes for a sweet-and-savoury mouthful. Queue can be quite long, but the Motherflipper guys are quite skilled at moving the line along quickly, without cutting back on quality.

Very happy that these guys can now be found at the King's Cross Market (before were only at the market in Dulwich) so I can enjoy them more often!

You can't imagine how great these burgers are. Bumped into their stall at Brockley market and couldn't resist the delicious smell of barbecued meat, plus here was quite a long queue which is always a good sign.

Despite the many people waiting, they're quite quick and have a great serving system that won't let you wait for ages. I went for a classic cheeseburger; the quality of the meat is remarkable, and their brioche bun is also really good.

If you're a street food lover as much as I am, you have to give this place a try!

Pure class. Fantastic. If you are a burger aficionado, you NEED to get your chops round one of these. Ace!
