  • I love Namyaa! it's right round the corner from work for me so I often pop in at lunchtime and after work with guests - I love the food (faves - rice set, crab, ribs) and cocktails (particularly the non-alcoholic ones - pomegranate, lychee). I love the burgers, which I devour for lunch, reminds of of the underground joints currently rocking Bangkok! I also love the service - normal, sweet people, no pretention, and they look after you - and the layout and design is classic Alan Yau.

  • I have been to Naamyaa more than once when it has been both busy and quiet. Each time I have had pleasant and friendly waiters with buckets of personality. Having spent some time south of the equator, I have found it so hard to find authentic dishes upon returning, but Naamyaa has quenched my cravings. I love, no, I WORSHIP the Isaan Chicken. The papaya salad is delightful, with a careful melding of all the important flavours. The sticky rice is perfect each time and the chicken is always tender and juicy. It comes with all the trimmings including cabbage to calm a burning tongue! Other favourites of mine are the ribs and olives, which are delicious, and the chicken rice set which is such a faithful version of the Hainan classic. I can never go past the juices and for pudding I always HAVE to have the hot chocolate and marscapone ice cream. I hate salads, but the variety on the menu is reminiscent of Thai cafes in Bangkok. I feel like the creators read my mind and put all my addictions on one menu. I love burgers but because of my love affair with the Isaan Chicken I have not tried them yet. The atmosphere is great there but they could literally sell their dishes out of a dilapidated market stall for all I care. I can't get enough of the food. Go and be transported.

  • I recently went to Naamyaa with 5 friends, and between us we tried most of the menu. There were lots of interesting dishes, loved the food and the deco was gorgeous! Loved the golden buddhas. Great little restaurant, we'll be back.

  • I stumbled upon Naamyaa by chance a few months ago and even though I live in the SW I have come back 3 times since. Being gluten intolerant I often find it quite hard when eating out but the staff were very helpful and were able to identify what was safe for me (which was surprisingly a lot!). It was great having lots of options. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and found it a great place to catch up with a group of people. Will definitely be heading back again soon.

  • As an Islington local its amazing to have Naamyaa on my doorstep. The menu reminds me of my travels to Bangkok where little cafes and hole in the wall eateries have menus filled with photos to get your taste buds running with a mix of Thai and western food. Of course with Yau at the helm its all done with sophistication and flare. I always order the ribs which were recommended by one of the waiters on my first visit. It just keeps getting better every time I go back. I definitely recommend it!

  • I saw the queue to get in so thought that must be a positive sign. The restaurant itself is appealing with the decor and open kitchen- however that's about as good as it got. Have visited the sister company Busaba and been impressed with the food. So after opening the menu something immediately didn't sit right with the fact there were burgers and chilli dogs and a Niçoise salad alongside Tom Yam and Laksas but thought maybe they were trying to be a bit clever and it was something I was missing. Despite the queue we were seated relatively quickly. For starters we ordered squid and ribs- the squid disappointed hugely -it was bland and greasy. The ribs however were delicious and by far the best dish. For mains we ordered Beef Laksa and stir fried crab. The crab was a nice dish, not amazing but for the price what I'd expect. The Laksa however was far from tasty. It was unlike any Laksa I have ever tried-sauce was far too thick and didn't have a good flavour. I thought I had got the wrong dish as there were huge chunks of soggy tofu and I found one tiny penny sized piece of beef! I questioned why there was no beef and all the tofu- I really thought I'd got the vegetarian option and apparently that is the dish- that was enough to make me put it to one side. At this point I was actually tempted just to order a burger but couldn't bring myself to do it so ordered the Naamya Gai with noodles, chicken, egg, beansprouts. Another disappointment- the chicken was shredded and had a sloppy consistency- flavour again wasn't nice and the dish was generally a bit bitter. I like the concept of the meal but the taste failed again. I didn't send it back but did just want to leave. It's a shame because I think this place has things going for it - primarily the atmosphere and some of the menu concepts- however they really need to bring the food up to standard -three of the dishes were just not tasty ..it's clear from the reviews I'm not the only one who thinks so- they need to brush up on this. I'm still a bit baffled by the Niçoise salad etc too in a environment like that - maybe I would have been better with that option after all as the thai food wasn't anything to shout about. As it stands I won't be returning or recommending this place.

  • After a show at Sadlers Wells we were hungry and thirsty and stumbled across Naamyaa Cafe. It looks amazing and we were excited to try the place out. Menus came and we ordered tap water. Then we chased the tap water. After a few minutes we were told the water was on it's way. I asked what I could eat off the menu as I am gluten free - the waitress will check. The water arrived and we had to stop the waitress from walking away and asked if we could order some alcohol too. A glass of white and a glass of red and I would decide on my drink when I had tasted my friends red. Also any news on the gluten free options? She had forgotten but will be right back. The red wine is very nice, oops she has gone. Hello? Oh you are busy. Hello? There are 3 people behind the bar and 4 having a chat over there and I really would like to order my wine now. 'Aha, yes a glass of red please, I ordered it before?'. I have my gluten free options now and ask what do you think is the better dish - the chicken laksa or the seafood laksa? The beef laksa is the reply. Priceless. A lady from the table next to us offers us a bowl of crackers - you don't want them we say? We did but we have just finished our dessert so you can have them. Oh dear. Quite thirsty now, 'hi can I have that glass of red'. My friends are now mocking me, they are half way through theirs. 'Excuse me I want my red now!' A man comes over in a mismatching tweed suit and asks everything is ok. We explain that we keep having to ask and re-ask for things. 'Don't worry I will look after you from now on'. Great, this is going to be fine we think. No, its not going to be fine. We watch our food on the side going cold and eventually it arrives. I look at my laksa and wonder why instead or a spicy thin coconut milk based delicious soup I have a thick dark mushroom kind of colour bowl of stuff. That’s because it is not actually a laksa but in fact a thick satay soup. I found 1 prawn and 2 fish balls in my seafood laksa. After a few mouthfuls I couldn’t continue and pushed it to the side. My friends calamari wasn’t too good either but she was hungry and ate it anyway. Mr Tweed has been on his haunches ever since he said the immortal words 'Don't worry I will look after you from now on' talking animatedly to a good looking couple opposite us. Maybe they are famous. Our original waitress notices my soup and asks if its ok, its not a laksa I say - we will get you something else if you don’t like it. Hurrah! This is good. I will just have a salad or something, I plump for the tuna nicoise. It arrives quickly and things are looking up. It's quite greasy but it's so much better than satay soup. The tuna is a bit of a funny colour. I am trying not to think about it and then there was a bite that really wasn’t right - my stomach turns and the fork goes down. The plate is pushed to the side. At least I have wine. The man from the table of cracker giftage gives a big sigh, walks up to the bar of 3 people, picks up his drinks that have been there for an age, walks back past the 4 waiters having a chat and delivers them to his thirsty, bored companions. There is a sense of unity growing amongst the tables. Tweed man is still on his haunches talking to the probably famous couple. After much time the table finally gets cleared, my friends have finished their drinks and I am sipping through the last of my wine and up pops lovely sweet waitress with another large glass of red wine for me on the house as I had to wait so long. My friends faces fizz with anger - 'what are we supposed to do while you drink your wine!', 'I don’t even want more wine!', 'Oh please just help me drink the wine' Tweed man has rediscovered his legs and is now sweet talking the cracker table. He is droning on about set designs. We want the bill. There is nobody looking at us anymore. We want the bill. My friend turns to the Tweed man, interrupts his conversation with cracker table and says 'Please can we have our bill!!!!!!!!!' Her face is not happy, neither is his. Tweed man arrives with machine and barely says a word. It's awkward. We pay. He doesn’t thank us. He doesn’t say sorry. He doesn’t really say anything and goes back over to talk to the famous couple. We get up to leave and have to ask him to excuse us as we can't get past as he is blocking the exit by talking to the famous people. 'See you soon' he says, 'No you won't' is the actual retort.

  • I was really looking forward to a meal at Naamyaa Café. The place looked great but it all went wrong when we waited ages for drinks, there was a lot of waiters around more than people in the restaurant at that point, then we ordered crackers which also took ages to come, we then ordered our starters and main, the starters took ages to come and were cold and had obviously been sitting around for ages. We complained and they promised the main would be quick and warm, they were not, all through the meal we had to get up and fetch people to get service. Don't bother coming here go to Wagamama or Busaba where you get better food and service. Sorry to be harsh.
