Nipa has the polished feel you’d expect from a hotel restaurant: immaculately turned out staff; fresh flowers on every table; and a rich, carved-wood interior dotted with shiny trinkets. If you manage to bag one of the window tables, you also get a great view of Hyde Park.
The food is attractively presented with the obligatory vegetable flowers. An abundant starter of sweet minced chicken and peanuts in sticky rice-paper parcels deserved its position on the list of recommended dishes. Wrapped at table in lettuce leaves with a few sprigs of coriander, it was a taste and textural treat. The crab fried rice, flecked with onion and egg, was another good choice, with plenty of juicy chunks of crab meat. A grilled aubergine and prawn salad was the perfect dish for a hot day – light and refreshing with ample lime and fish sauce.
Other diners included hotel guests and a group of friends enjoying a special occasion with a bottle of fizz. As the staff are friendly and the atmosphere relaxed, Nipa makes a good spot for a casual meal, as well as for any special event.
