Just tried Porters restaurant and I'm more than disappointed! Our waitress didn't know what kind of food the restaurant served and she has to go back to the bar and ask.
When we were ready to order food the same waitress informed us they were out of CHIPS, so she offered me vegetables to go with my fish (and chips). hmm. So I did order mashed potatoes and my wife had a steak with mashed potatoes too. Well...my meal didn't taste nice and my wife had to leave her packet Smash.
After my main course I ordered apple & raspberry crumble, which arrived without ice-cream or custard. I though they must just serve it this way (bit dry though)...and a few minutes later I noticed that the table next to us ordered the same desert and they got a pot with custard...So I asked our waitress if the crumble should come with custard and she said" yes it is coming with custard if u ask"!

I do not understand that shoddy careless service and I'm sure I will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Also they added 13% service charge on top of the bill without asking...I think that's wrong because the service was very poor and I'm surprise this waitress got the job in such a busy London restaurant with such a bad attitude. I'm very disappointed and now that I have checked review sites I can see my experience was just the norm for this grotty place.

I haven't been to Porters since the 1990s and wanted to take my husband as my recollection of the restaurant was of good british cooking with a home cooked feel and an excellent atmosphere. Unfortunately our experience was so disappointing. I ordered the fish cakes served with spiced lentils and a choice of vegetable, salad or potato sides dish. My husband had the Guinness and steak pie with chips. The food arrived in record time, my fish cakes were not served with the lentils and when I questioned this the waitress appeared not to really under stand what I meant, reluctantly brought a portions of lentils to the table and then had the cheek to says she wouldn't charge! The food was warm not hot and my husbands pie and chips was a great disappointment with no flavour. Oh how things change, we definitely won't be going back.
