CaminoAfter years of talk about the regeneration of King’s Cross, we’re finally starting to see some interesting developments. One of the most exciting so far has been the opening of this bar-restaurant, a new venture from the owners of Shoreditch’s Cargo and W1’s Market Place. Rustic materials such as stripped wood and cork have been used to create a clean, contemporary aesthetic that is equal parts London and Spain. In the spacious bar area and its outdoor courtyard, simple tapas are available. The restaurant, round the other side, offers an expanded menu including fish and steaks from the parrilla (charcoal grill). Ingredients and cooking are top-notch. We enjoyed a delicate fillet of red mullet with shallots and tomato, as well as a chunky, tender ribeye steak. The drinks list alone distinguishes Camino; all the wines from a great, compact list are available by the glass, as are three sherries and three cavas. Lesser-known Spanish beers include the magnificent Ámbar from Zaragoza. Spanish travellers stepping off the new Eurostar at St Pancras will feel like they’ve never left home.
