Acorn HouseEco-friendly training restaurant doesnt successfully convey the charm of Acorn House. The engaging interior furnished with modern tables and chairs, and decorated in white and brown with splashes of apple green makes it easy to shake off grimy Grays Inn Road. The restaurant is committed to seasonal menus and environmental responsibility. It runs a training programme too (ten local young adults a year), but the experience of dining here is anything but worthy. Breakfast (power shakes through to pastries) and an all-day roster of sandwiches, paninis and coffees are served, but the real pleasure lies in the flavour-packed cooked dishes and simple assemblies for lunch and dinner. There are soups (pea and broad bean); cured meats; a choice of sprightly, multicoloured salads; a pasta dish and a risotto; plus five or so major mains, such as roast pork chop with soy honey and thyme, or chargrilled sea bream with salad. Rice pudding with strawberry jam and hazelnut biscotti was a rich treat, though chocolate cake with ginger ice-cream also appealed; there are English cheeses too. Add a tempting wine list (plenty by the glass) and warm, friendly staff, and you have a great local. Source: Time Out Eating & Drinking Guide 2008
