Abu Ali
Aesthetically, this is the Lebanese equivalent of a greasy spoon, with Formica tables, yellowing pictures of Lebanese tourist spots and Arab TV blaring in the corner. But we wager you won't be disappointed by the authentic, superb-value food. Abundant starters and snacks (50p-£3) come in the form of mini-Lebanese pizzas, and hot and cold meze, served with mounds of pitta; on a recent visit, our crop yielded impeccably fresh houmous and zesty tabouleh; five falafel, each with a perfect bite; and wonderfully smooth baba ganoush. Succulent meaty mains – chicken or lamb – can be prepared in a bewildering number of ways, all served with rice or freshly cut chips. For lunch on the go, Abu Ali's shawarma sandwiches are unbeatable value at £2.75. Finish with a freshly squeezed mango juice or fresh mint tea. Source: Time Out Cheap Eats in London Guide 2007
