TroiaA large relief showing the Trojan horse, with the Greeks riding inside like passengers on a bus, dominates the bright yellow and red walls of Troia, and the ceiling is adorned with a great wagon wheel of lamps. In the past the restaurant has seemed a little troubled by its location, tucked away behind the London Eye. Yet when we visited recently it was full, suggesting the earlier difficulties have been overcome. A starter of kalamar, fried with walnut sauce, was fresh and piquant. Just as good was patlcan biber kizartma, fried aubergine with tomato sauce. These were followed by interesting and slightly unusual main courses. Kuskonmazli tavuk was grilled chicken with lightly grilled seasonal vegetables, including asparagus; it was exceptionally tasty, even if the asparagus was overdone. Armutlu kuzu tandir stew was a delight: melt-in-the-mouth lamb accompanied by spiced pear. The small designer chairs round the tables may be very Ottoman, but theyre are a little hard to rise from after a big meal. Small gripes aside, Troia is now established as a very respectable restaurant. Source: Time Out Eating & Drinking Guide 2008
