The Tootsies chain is so family-friendly that waiters all but take your order in colouring books with crayons. The restaurants are bright, with big windows and light pine furniture. Staff are young and laid-back about prams blocking walkways or kids dashing about looking for lost teddies. The menu has nearly a dozen kinds of burgers, from a cheeseburger down to a burger with no burger at all (aka a veggie burger). Then there are chicken sandwiches, big filling salads, and lots of ice-cream desserts. But what keeps drawing us back are the butterscotch milkshakes worth the heart attack later in life.
