Situated in the kind of affluent suburbia that provides the blueprint for Working Title film sets, Kalendar is an open-all-hours café that manages to be all things to all people. The menu, like the boho-country decor, is eclectic: along with a stellar all-day breakfast, there are fresh juices, chargrills, and sandwiches and salads with a Mediterranean bias. Much of the produce used is available from the on-site deli, and sourcing is careful: meat from Elite Meats next door, cakes from Konditor & Cook, cheeses from Neal's Yard (including, on our visit, an oozily ripe Brie the size of a hubcap). Come the evening, the line-up is gastropub in all but name – our salad of smoky duck breast came with a beautifully-judged dressing, and salmon fish cakes were crisp without, sweetly flaky within. Special.
