Abbevilles Restaurant
Not only is this a very reasonably priced bistro, it's also an enterprise run by the First Step Trust that gives people with mental disabilities the opportunity to participate in the running of a restaurant. The short menu takes in bistro classics – including a solid steak with chunky chips – but also trots the globe with freshly seasoned Thai fish cakes with chilli sauce and a decent rendition of crispy aromatic duck with pancakes. Portions are huge and carefully presented. The front might be vivid orange but inside the decor is the fustier side of old-fashioned – bag a table outside in fine weather.
