This higher class of sit-down Turkish diner blends in with the opposing pavements of oriental eateries, stalls and shopfronts leading from Harringay railway station. Find a spot in the spacious back room decorated with reproductions of Ottoman scenes, order up a 50p Dimes-brand fruit juice (Yayla is non-licensed) and consider quail, lamb ribs or lamb chops if the humble kebab, served in two sizes, seems too unadventurous. Everything comes with a mound of rice, salad and cacik the soups (chicken, yoghurt, lamb or lentil) supported by a basket of warm Turkish bread and a plate of olives and chillies. The service is as friendly as the sign on the door hosgeldinis (welcome) promises, so to finish off it would seem downright churlish not to force down a couple of spoonfuls of rice pudding.
