This prime location opposite the north end of Carnaby Street, with its panoramic view over the mock-Tudor splendour of the Liberty store, is a good place to rest your bags during a daytime shopping trip. Café Libre frees you for a short while to tuck into appealing sandwiches (until 6pm only), morsel-packed salads, or more substantial main courses. The tuna of our niçoise salad was grilled well, and there were plenty of other titbits to raise it above the norm: boiled quails' eggs and a handful of soybeans, for example. The cream tea's not bad either, with lashings of clotted cream on raisin scones. As in most cafés in West Soho, prices are on the high side, but that comes with the territory.
