  • Coby's Café & Flowers

    Budget choice
  • Golders Green is bursting with eateries, so a new one needs an angle; this one has flowers. Coby's is divided into two: a flower shop on one side and a café with an espresso machine and fresh juices on the other. In the back are tables where you can enjoy an Israeli-style lunch – light food, nicely presented. The menu gives new meaning to the word ‘inventive': dishes are named after flowers, with apparently little connection between the names and flavours. There's a lizzianthus omelette (new potatoes and mozzarella) served with a pyramid of Israeli salad and a ball of soft cheese; bonsai (fried mushrooms); and freesia pizza (sweet potato and leek). The bird of paradise sandwich boasted fried smoked salmon. There are crêpes, fresh fruit shakes and nice-sounding cakes too.

Coby's has potential, it's quite quirky as it's built in to the Railway Arches. However, the service was very unfriendly - our waitress didn't smile once and no-one asked us how our meal was. My pasta (a very simple penne dish) was overcooked and although it tasted OK, the texture was disappointing.
