    Budget choice
  • In the area near Brick Lane, in the heart of London’s Bengali community, an interesting new Turkish restaurant has opened. It produces fine Turkish food, but is slanted more to local Bengalis – which is not to say that anyone else is made less welcome. As well as Turkish grills, and steaks, the menu includes shawarma (grilled slices of marinated meat), vegetarian dishes, Turkish pizzas and a range of stews. As with many Turkish restaurants the meat is halal. More unusually, there’s a strict no-alcohol policy. The topping on our starter of lahmacun was pleasingly fresh, including pine kernels in the minced lamb paste. Çöp şiş was a good portion of yielding lamb cubes with nicely cooked rice and green salad. The space here is well used, with a real sense of design. A sheet of glass tops each dark wooden table, with tiny patterned carpets underneath. There are several traditional private booths for modest family eating. The dining area is surrounded by patterned glass in round frames. Doors too are round and the takeaway section is unobtrusive.

This is a great place to dine and eat. It provides a service with a good range of Turkish food. The best meal I would recommend anyone is Mixed Shish Kebab. It has a HMC certificate which stands for Halal Monitoring Certificate which is a great asset to the company. The only downside is customer service which I found it's difficult to get staff attention.

The first time i visited Maedah grill was only because some of my friends were bragging about it so much, i had eaten turkish food before and never found it to be that tasty. however the first thing you see when you enter is the beautiful decor of the place, you immediately get a feel of the the east, its a very good mix of the "old school" arab/turkish decor and the west..
we sat down and ordered, a mix mezze (some cold starters) to be eaten with bread, along with turkish pizza and some garlic mushrooms (that are to die for)
i had a Maedah Special Sarma Kebab, which was very different, and i had never seen anything like it.. But i had never tasted anything like it either, the meat in the kebab was excellent and the mis with the salsa and yoghurt gave it an indelible flavour.. the staff were excellent and helpful, and we een had a laugh with the one that served us... very helpful and willing..
after i had one of the many mocktails they have, i chose a mojito, and it was stunning.. for desserts, a tiramisu and mint tea.. the meal was fantastic!

The food was mediocre to average, but the portion sizes of the average dishes made up for the mediocre ones. The food exhibited good flavours, albeit not particularly impressive ones. Vegetarian fare was greasy yet enjoyable. The meat dish had a hearty helping of lamb. The tomato garnishes on all plates looked anaemic, which made me question the quality of all food served. Despite this the taste was par and the price was great.
The service wasn't inattentive, but it was far from prompt. This said, the servers were always around to be summoned when necessary.
Overall, it was a satisfying meal, although I wouldn't go out of my way for a second visit.
