Time Out has teamed up with tastelondon to offer you a fantastic one month free trial
Treading a well-balanced line between caff-style homeliness, canteen-style effectiveness and bistro-style funkiness, Squat & Gobble has proved to be a palpable hit amid myriad lunching options provided by the restaurant super-highway that is Charlotte Street. Whether you go for a jacket or sarnie, you can choose from basic fodder (fish-finger sandwich, spud with beans, cheese and bacon) or slightly more imaginative fillings (deep-fried brie and cranberry baguette, tarragon chicken filled potato). There are also plentiful breakfasts, salads, soups and mains up for grabs – from fish cakes to falafel. The enterprise occupies two sites, one on Charlotte Street and another just around the corner, but both are small, with few tables for eating-in and long queues of desktop lunchers popping by for takeaways.

Best burger in town, really.
Just had lunch at Squat and Gobble and had a cheese and bacon beefburger. My lunch date had Falafel balls and salad. Both meals were absolutely fabulous. Service was great although the place was heaving, prices were really good considering the great quality and there was funky music playing creating a super atmosphere. Wonder what the evenings are like ? Must try.
Went last week for lunch in a group of 3. We were forced to sit on a 2 person table and told that the other table next to it was saved. Obviously a means to try and get more people in. Would not recommend going here as the staff are rude and dining experience was rubbish. Worst restaurant in Fitzrovia.
The staff are rude and you are rushed through like cattle. Not a dining experience to remember, and I will not be going back.
Greatest food and vibe this side of heaven !
Go to Squat and Gobble for lunch two or three times every week and standards are consistantly really good. Yesterday had a double Decker BLT and it was quite possibly the greatest sandwich I have ever had. OMG. Love it.
I would avoid the bacon sandwich - nice bread but the bacon was the rankest fattiest bacon I have seen in a long time. The chocolate milkshake is pretty rancid too, and the staff are curt.
I really love this place. I work locally and call in for lunch quite regularly. I often do not cook in the evening so a Squat and Gobble lunch does the trick for my main meal of the day. The lasagne is my particulat favourite and at six quid or so for a good sized portion of home cooked food I think it is good value.
I work round the corner from the Squat and Gobble and it does indeed have a good reputation, however the prices have gone up and are more expaensive than suggested above . it is not really cost effective if you take out, the portions seem to be much smaller than eat in
