It’s not built for comfort – the high wooden bench seating demands you place your feet on a bar beneath the table, or leave them swinging like a five-year-old – but comfort food is what Mother Mash serves, in big soothing spoonfuls. Read the school dinnery desserts list first, as the puds are delicious and portions are small enough to squeeze one in after a mix-and-match main course. Ordering is easy in theory: you choose your mash, you choose your pie or sausages, you choose your gravy. The hard bit is in deciding what you want from the tempting list. We didn’t have horseradish mash, or crème fraîche and lemon, or chopped green olive. Cheesy mustard mash and champ seemed like better accompaniments to our chicken, leek and ham pies and onion gravy. Veg, should you want them, include grilled french beans wrapped in bacon, and mushy or ‘garden’ peas. Main-course salads are available too (oh please, get real). The beer list is disappointing, with bottles of London Pride the only British option. Why no Innis & Gunn, or Old Hooky? Fentimans soft drinks strike a more appropriate note, and the short wine list is appealing.

I love this pie, i loves sausages, i love mash. God i love Mother Mash!
Took a group 16 friends here last week and everyone adored the place. Perfect comfort food, great location, friendly staff and very reasonably priced. This place deserves to branch out!
MMMMMMMash. We wanted lovely, tasty comfort food at cheap prices after a few days of indulgence in londons pricier affairs and had one of our best meals of the trip. Beef and guiness sausages, cheesy mustard mash, peas and gravy, Marvellous. Great service, lovely food at sensible prices, what more could you want. Next time a pie I think.
Mother Mash is refreshingly different and cheap as chips (even though they don't serve chips). It looks like a 60's cafe but comes with simple, quality food. Chose your mash, bashed or mashed and then chose from a selection of sausages pies and gravies. My husband had the special - sweet Italian sausages - the best he'd ever had. My daughter had the lamb sausages which she described as being like roast lamb with mint sauce. And the mash ain't bad. Eight of us had 2 courses and drinks and it came to £101 - I doubt you could beat that in London - you certainly will not get the quality of food and efficient service that we received. we shall definitely go back next trip up to Town and I have recommended to friends and my boss.
All the staff are very friendly and every time I go I end up taking a new friend with me to share the love of mash.
