  • The Narrow

  • With its postcard position smack bang on the Thames, and staff of Gordon Ramsay Holdings at the helm, the Narrow raises diners’ hopes understandably high for an unforgettable gastropub experience. It may come as a surprise, then, to find what is essentially an old-fashioned boozer serving the kind of traditional fare that’s common throughout the land. The big difference is the quality. Originally a dockmaster’s house, the building has retained many charming old features and been given a professional polish. Pleasingly, passers-by can still drop in for a casual pint and some potted shrimps at the bar, while those looking for more can get the Ramsay-brand take on the gastropub experience in the understated dining room. The menu is striking in its simplicity and has mixed results: a starter of scallops and black pudding was sensational, bangers and champ a little boring, and treacle tart with clotted cream warm, rich and gorgeously gooey. Reasonably priced and unpretentious, the Narrow is a great destination for groups of friends, especially if you can nab a prized outdoor table on a sunny afternoon.

I recently ate lunch here and was very unimpressed. It was a gorgeous hot day in a lovely location but the menu mainly consisted of heavy and unimaginative pub food more appropriate for a cold winter's night. I won't be returning.

Hugely disappointing, food was ordinary and unexciting.
    the loo was horrible.
    Let us down Gordon.

Was taken to the Narrow for my birthday last sunday, and can honestly say it was one of the WORST meals i've ever had. Tastless over cooked steak, deep fried roast potatoes and greasy gravy for £15.50. Not an experience to be repeated!

Food was clean tasting and simple, but filling. Service was spot on, and dessert of bread and butter pudding was wonderful finish.

Not as special as it likes to think - in an out in just over 60 mins for three courses and wine. It felt like being in a processing factory.
The food is fine but at this price expected something a little more interesting and the portions are tiny - order the elderflower jelly summer berries and ice cream to see what I mean literally one spoonful. Service is good, fast very fast but I wont be going back I Prefer the GUN gastorbpub on nearby Manchester road, its actually more expensive but you feel you have had a meal and its got a really nice atmosphere.
