No relation to the Pho in Clerkenwell , this newcomer is a budget caff that hedges its bets by offering both Chinese and Vietnamese dishes. We tried the pho soup with beef tendon, tripe and beef balls. The stock was on the watery side, with no discernible spice aromas, and the tripe was bland. Banh cuon was filled with minced beef; it was a decent, slithery version of this rice-pasta texture food. But our final dish was quite disappointing: a bun (salad of vermicelli rice noodles) topped with grilled pork that was slightly burnt. Some fresh and verdant Vietnamese herbs could have made up for this slip, but instead a meagre and slightly droopy selection accompanied the dish. Pho is a handy place to pop into if you fancy eating something a bit different near Kings Cross; but if youre seeking Vietnamese culinary finesse, youll need to venture further.
