Under the same ownership as Eighty-Six , the Burger Bar , an excellent bakery and two other Orli outlets, this café offers an extensive all-day menu. For breakfast there are omelettes, borekas and danish pastries. Lunch options include pizzas, jacket potatoes, salads and toasted bagels, but there are more substantial grilled fish and pasta dishes to be had too, served with a generous scoop of side salad. Soups are fresh and gutsy, with toasted challah rolls or pitta on the side. Deep-fried mushrooms were filled with slightly oily tuna and coated with a thick layer of batter, while savoury blintzes were accompanied by a thinnish, bland cream sauce. A plate of penne with tomato was splendid, with perfectly al dente pasta and a sauce that packed a flavoursome punch. There’s also a small but inviting selection of cakes, with apple pie, white or dark chocolate cake and an excellent crumble-topped cheesecake. Our visit was marred by slightly amateurish service, with a surly waitress bringing the main courses before we’d even finished our starters.
