  • Savannah Jerk

    Budget choice
  • It’s no coincidence that two Caribbean eateries have set up shop side by side. When business partners split in 2006, Mr Jerk was renamed Jerk City and The Original Mr Jerk rocked up next door. It changed name to Savannah Jerk in early 2009, following a change of ownership, but the chef and the menu remain the same. Although the two menus her and next door are virtually identical, this venue has much more space than its neighbour, with a large dining area and a separate rum-stocked bar – it also has the advantage of being fully licensed. We kicked off with a mutton soup, packed with hefty chunks of meat on the bone. Keen to try another of the one-pot wonders, we opted for the traditional Jamaican stew of oxtail and butter beans, which tasted wonderfully of real stock. Starchy side dishes (fried plantain, peas and rice, macaroni cheese) help you through the gravy-rich main courses, but be warned that the macaroni comes flecked with spicy peppers. If you can’t manage dessert (that goes for the majority of customers), finish with a creamy soursop punch.

I visited Mr Jerk on my birthday this month.
I have nothing negative to say..Food and drink was served promptly and the taste as well as presentation was 10/10.
I wanted dessert but couldn't fit it in as I was so full from ackee and saltfish with hardfood with guiness punch...
I will be visiting again and would recommend this venue

Went there with a few friends last week . It was quite a warm day and the air con wasn't working, felt like you were actually in the Caribbean! My food arrived before all my friends and we had to wait nearly 10 mins for their food. We ordered a bottle of white wine and it was plonked on the table with no wine cooler. All in all a sub standard service. Would not recommend or go there again.

love this place.... mutton roti every time. But check your take away order. Just got home and no Plantain in my take away (despite being asked verification of the order) :-(
Apart from that. Great food in a great location

The food is ok and the atmosphere was nice, but nothing more: prices were a little bit higher than asians budget places.
    I'd give it a 3,5 (i.e. 7/10)

I used to be a regular at Mr Jerk but this is not Mr Jerk anymore it is something else as Savannah Jerk is not the same thing at all. The issues I can see : the portion side went down and the prices went up, which is quite funny when the price of raw food has ACTUALLY gone down. But jerkcity is still next door I suppose, it may not be as pretty but its much better value eg £2.50 - £3 for a soft drink like a can of gingerbeer is robbery. Someone at the top does not know what they are doing or do not have an appreciation for this type of cuisine and what can or should be charged for it. The place is a hollow shell of the energy and vibe that MR Jerk was.
The staff must be really under pressure in that environment.

Wouldn't say this was a cheap or authentic eat. Facts above are correct however this place seems to have lost its authenticity since William departed. Also - a bit off putting to dine at a restaurant that has a large broken window - has been so for the last month. At this stage I'd rather venture to Caribbean Scene in Stratford, East London.

I was a regular at Mr Jerk and a big fan. My partner and I have since been to "Savannah Jerk' and were not impressed at all. Yes the menu remains the same however the quality of the food we got, not to mention the customer service from a very grumpy looking and sounding lady was not up to scaratch. My partner was struggling to find bits of chicken as it seemed to be mainly bone, whilst my meal was dry and needed alot more sauce. As for the Macaroni.... the potion was laughable. The whole atmosphere felt different too. Being a Mr JERK fan im just hoping that maybe we chose a bad day to go.
