Time Out has teamed up with tastelondon to offer you a fantastic one month free trial
A justifiably popular café that attracts Wellcome Collection visitors as well as local office workers having off-site meetings and scanning their laptops. Oliver Peyton’s colourful, chic styling is spot-on but keeping floors and tables clean and turned over at peak times is a challenge. Take a perch by the window for views over Euston Road; tables provide a panorama of the foyer and bookshop. The counter holds a spectacular array of cakes and other treats – cupcakes as high and bright as the Matahorn, fat juicy wedges of pear and almond tart, multi-layered victoria sponge – but there’s a goodly range of savoury food too. Opt for salads, pâtés, sausage rolls and pies from the counter, or order the likes of spiced tuna burger with chilli and mango chutney, or Herdwick lamb cutlets from the rear kitchen. Our roast vegetable skewer, lacking the advertised spelt salad, was below the high standard we’ve come to expect here, but normal service was resumed with a robust gluten-free chocolate and almond cake thickly decorated with frosting and guaranteed to deliver fat grams even for those on special diets.
